Completed in 2015, this project incorporates a Scandinavian vibe to enhance the modern architecture and farmhouse details. The vision was to create a balanced and consistent design to reflect clean lines and subtle rustic details, which creates a calm sanctuary. The whole home is not based on a design aesthetic, but rather how someone wants to feel in a space, specifically the feeling of being cozy, calm, and clean. This home is an interpretation of modern design without focusing on one specific genre; it boasts a midcentury master bedroom, stark and minimal bathrooms, an office that doubles as a music den, and modern open concept on the first floor. It’s the winner of the 2017 design award from the Austin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and has been on the Tribeza Home Tour; in addition to being published in numerous magazines such as on the cover of Austin Home as well as Dwell Magazine, the cover of Seasonal Living Magazine, Tribeza, Rue Daily, HGTV, Hunker Home, and other international publications. This three-story Westhampton Beach home designed for family get-togethers features a large entry and open-plan kitchen, dining, and living room. The kitchen was gut-renovated to merge seamlessly with the living room. For worry-free entertaining and clean-up, we used lots of performance fabrics and refinished the existing hardwood floors with a custom greige stain. A palette of blues, creams, and grays, with a touch of yellow, is complemented by natural materials like wicker and wood. The elegant furniture, striking decor, and statement lighting create a light and airy interior that is both sophisticated and welcoming, for beach living at its best, without the fuss!

“We could never have envisioned what could be” – Steiner Ranch Homeowner and Client It is an especially fulfilling Project for an Interior Designer when the outcome exceeds Client expectations, and imagination. This remodeling project required instilling modern sensibilities, openness, styles and textures into a dated house that was past its prime. Strategically, the goal was to tear down where it made sense without doing a complete teardown. Starting with the soul of the home, the kitchen, we expanded out room by room to create a cohesiveness and flow that invites, supports and provides the warmth and relaxation that only a home can. In the Kitchen, we started by removing the wooden beams and adding bright recessed lighting. We removed the old limestone accent wall and moved the sink and cooktop from the island on to the countertop – the key goal was to create room for the family to gather around the kitchen. We replaced all appliances with modern Energy Star ones, along with adding a wine rack. The first order of business for the Living Room was to brighten it up by adding more lighting and replacing an unused section with a glass door to the backyard. Multi-section windows were replaced with large no-split glass overlooking the backyard. Once more, the limestone accent was removed to create a clean, modern look. Replacing the dated wooden staircase with the clean lines of a metal, wire and wooded staircase added interest and freshness. An odd bend in the staircase was removed to clean things up. The Master Bedroom went from what looked like a motel room with green carpet and cheap blinds to an oasis of luxury and charm. A section of the wraparound doors were closed off to increase privacy, accentuate the best view from the bedroom and to add usable space. Artwork, rug, contemporary bed and other accent pieces brought together the seamless look across the home. The Master Bathroom remodel started by replacing the standard windows with a single glass pane that enhanced the view of the outdoors. The dated shower was replaced by a walk-in shower and soaking tub to create the ultimate at-home spa experience. Lighted LED mirrors frame His & Hers sinks and bathe them in a soft light. The flooring was upgraded throughout the house to reflect the contemporary color scheme. Each of the smaller bedrooms were similarly upgraded to match the clean and modern décor of the rest of the house. After such a transformation inside, it was only appropriate that the exterior needed an upgrade as well. All of the legacy limestone accents were replaced by stucco and the color scheme extended from the interior of the house to the gorgeous wrap around balconies, trim, garage doors etc. to complete the inside outside transformation.

Rustic built-in bunk beds incorporated into the design allow a cozy spot for dream and play while still retaining the original design aesthetic. Endcap shelving solves the inevitable need for space for books and toys. Rods give this art display a more substantial look than wires. As part of this Replacement Dwelling Development, this area between the two large Oak Framed Buildings has been created to form a focal feature in between both buildings. A once totally over grown shaded area due to 20 Leylandi trees being in this part of the Developments Curtilage, this now lovely sunny area has been carefully landscaped with a wonderful dry stone curved wall, with Oak cleft gates and Oak raised beds with Box Ball 'Cloud' Planting. Recalimed York Stone Flags and Setts have also been used and allowing the Oak of the buildings and raised beds to naturally 'silver' will go onto compliment the beautiful 200 year old stone. The Dry Stone wall is soon to be capped off with bull nosed stone coping stones. Pretty Pink structural Tulips have been planted for Spring Colour and pretty feathery Cosmos has been planted for Summer Planting. The Box Balls remain a constant structural planting element all year round and look stunning when frost covered. John Cullen low level Lighting in the raised beds and walk way allow these raised beds to look stunning in the evening.

The bed folds up on to the wall behind it between wardrobes, assisted by concealed hydraulic gas pumps requiring minimal effort by one person. Once the bed is folded up, sliding folding doors are drawn across it to align with the adjacent cupboards. Once closed, the entire wall appears to be a continuous wardrobe, with no hint of the bed behind, completely transforming the room. The bed has a ply base over aluminium framing and a carved wooden edge band all around.

This view presents the complete bed frame without bedding, highlighting the sculptural upholstered headboard, rounded wooden platform and integrated slatted mattress support. The clean construction and flowing profile combine functionality with contemporary design, making this a distinctive handcrafted furniture piece for modern, Scandinavian and organic-modern interiors.
