Set in Montana's tranquil Shields River Valley, the Shilo Ranch Compound is a collection of structures that were specifically built on a relatively smaller scale, to maximize efficiency. The main house has two bedrooms, a living area, dining and kitchen, bath and adjacent greenhouse, while two guest homes within the compound can sleep a total of 12 friends and family. There's also a common gathering hall, for dinners, games, and time together. The overall feel here is of sophisticated simplicity, with plaster walls, concrete and wood floors, and weathered boards for exteriors. The placement of each building was considered closely when envisioning how people would move through the property, based on anticipated needs and interests. Sustainability and consumption was also taken into consideration, as evidenced by the photovoltaic panels on roof of the garage, and the capability to shut down any of the compound's buildings when not in use.

These high gloss white cabinets are the perfect compliment to the single bowl sink. The black porcelain tile floor is low maintenance and a great touch to the minimalist look of the space. This adorable beach cottage is in the heart of the village of La Jolla in San Diego. The goals were to brighten up the space and be the perfect beach get-away for the client whose permanent residence is in Arizona. Some of the ways we achieved the goals was to place an extra high custom board and batten in the great room and by refinishing the kitchen cabinets (which were in excellent shape) white. We created interest through extreme proportions and contrast. Though there are a lot of white elements, they are all offset by a smaller portion of very dark elements. We also played with texture and pattern through wallpaper, natural reclaimed wood elements and rugs. This was all kept in balance by using a simplified color palate minimal layering.
I am so grateful for this client as they were extremely trusting and open to ideas. To see what the space looked like before the remodel you can go to the gallery page of the website www.cmnaturaldesigns.com

Kitchen storage and organization is key to a great kitchen. Here one of our pantry cabinet options designed by north of Boston kitchen showroom Heartwood Kitchens. This cabinet is a great place to store items that aren't used often including crock pots and Kitchenaid Mixer. Add power to your cabinetry installation and you could hide and use your Keurig and microwave while in the cabinet. Elaine Fredrick Photography.

When you need a flooring option that works hard and can still manage to look good, floating cork flooring is your answer. Cork is very resilient, and when used as a flooring material, it can withstand high-level foot traffic and stress very well. Its naturally malleable character provides a cushiony walking surface than surpasses other hard-surface flooring options like hardwood, laminate or tile. Take a look today and see how cork impresses.
