THE PROBLEM Our client had recently purchased a beautiful home on the Merrimack River with breathtaking views. Unfortunately the views did not extend to the primary bedroom which was on the front of the house. In addition, the second floor did not offer a secondary bathroom for guests or other family members. THE SOLUTION Relocating the primary bedroom with en suite bath to the front of the home introduced complex framing requirements, however we were able to devise a plan that met all the requirements that our client was seeking. In addition to a riverfront primary bedroom en suite bathroom, a walk-in closet, and a new full bathroom, a small deck was built off the primary bedroom offering expansive views through the full height windows and doors. Updates from custom stained hardwood floors, paint throughout, updated lighting and more completed every room of the floor.

These clients own a very unique home, originally constructed circa 1760 and extensively renovated in 2008. They were seeking some additional space for home exercise, but didn’t necessarily want to disturb the existing structure, nor did they want to live through construction with a young child. One of the clients really enjoys cooking when hosting so we opened up the space in order to maximize the space in the kitchen while still allowing integration between the living and kitchen areas. Additionally, we provided a clean, light, and airy aesthetic in keeping with the overall goal the client was seeking.

What was previously dead space at the top of the stairs adjacent to their guest bedrooms has been reconfigured into a lovely library. This space not only provides a wonderful entrance to the second floor, it also houses their significant book collection. Two comfortable arm chairs offer a place to settle in should residents or guests be seeking a cozy place to read.
