The main objective was to make use of our client's existing traditional furniture and accessories of which had long time sentimental value, and add a modern twist. The design team added in a fresh coat of paint, lighting, and unique accents to help tie the two styles together. The result is calm & cool residence with playful pops of colors and textures that the homeowners are proud to call home.

The owners of this residence harbor a genuine fondness for the property, the land, and its location; however, their sentiments towards the house itself were less favorable. Despite undergoing three rounds of renovations and additions, the dwelling, while spacious, lacked the desired comfort. Its absence of meticulous detailing resulted in a conglomeration of various styles and ideas, creating a somewhat unwieldy aesthetic. Moreover, the owners were apprehensive about facing months of unavoidable reconstruction. Despite the challenging nature of the project, the allure of new concepts and possibilities served as a source of inspiration for everyone involved, propelling them forward to explore the untapped potential within the property.

This boys bedroom decor was inspired by the framed Union Jack flag, which also has sentimental value as the boy was born in London, UK. We chose to paint the room entirely in Benjamin Moore's flint, including ceiling and trim. The room is small but with the slanted ceilings and contrary to myth, the dark colour doesn't make this room feel smaller. We popped with red and green accents and used many of the boys items as accessories when styling.

This bedroom renovation addressed draftiness by insulating behind the antique brick and re-stacking it with lime putty mortar for preservation. Lime plaster highlighted the brick and timber. A custom built-in, crafted from cherry wood inherited from our client’s father, added sentimental value. Natural wool carpet and custom curtains completed the design, merging history with modern functionality for a warm, cohesive finish.
