The homeowner wanted a hill country style outdoor living space larger than their existing covered area. The main structure is now 280 sq ft with a 9-1/2 feet long kitchen complete with a grill, fridge & utensil drawers. The secondary structure is 144 sq ft with a gas fire pit lined with crushed glass. The table on the left in the main structure was a piece of granite the homeowner had and wanted it made into a table, so we made a wrought iron frame for it. There are more sentimental touches! The swing by the fire pit is a newly made replica of a swing the husband had made in wood shop in high school over 50 years ago. The flooring is stamped concrete in a wood bridge plank pattern. The college man who inspired this suite studied countless hours in a day. We believed the bedroom should reflect his rigorousness and dedication, yet with a touch of whimsy. The gray wall covering was procured through Jim Thompson. The subtle contrast between the lighter and darker stripes is quite soothing to the eye. We opted for a flannel-upholstered daybed from Donghia which doubles as a comfortable place to read. The diverse and eclectic art and accessories collection comprising contemporary pieces and vintage objects was carefully assembled. This bedroom renovation addressed draftiness by insulating behind the antique brick and re-stacking it with lime putty mortar for preservation. Lime plaster highlighted the brick and timber. A custom built-in, crafted from cherry wood inherited from our client’s father, added sentimental value. Natural wool carpet and custom curtains completed the design, merging history with modern functionality for a warm, cohesive finish.

This client had a house that was out dated and out of space, but the house had a ton of sentimental value (and beyond beautiful farm property) and decided to build on an addition instead of move. We encompassed the kitchen and dining space which lead out to a stunning wrap around porch that has views of the fields. This space is the heart of the home and was even housing new ducklings. The overall project was absolutely gorgeous!

This room has a special place in my heart as I not only personally curated all the furniture, but also because it contains a very sentimental piece as the focal point. Above the black and gold credenza, you will notice a large, beautiful painting. This original landscape was completed by my uncle, Douglas Roether. My Uncle Doug was a professional artist, and I grew up marveling at his work and his beautiful gallery which he ran in Toledo, Ohio. In 2005, my uncle passed away from cancer much too early. After he passed away his wife held a special final art show in his gallery, and I was able to acquire this stunning piece. It reminds me of him, and the beautiful landscapes in Indiana which are home to me. Now when you enter our home you can see this piece almost immediately and it brings me so much joy as a result. Beautiful design is not just about following best practice design principles but also about nurturing sentiment and meaning in the spaces you spend your time.

As part of an interior remoderning (yep, a made up word for modern remodel) this section of the living room is home to the TV, some serious AV and inspired furnishings. Each element boldly stays in its own lane while simultaneously merging with to tell the story. Affectionately referred to as The Records Cabinet, a custom crafted barmoire (yep, better describes the cabinet) is a masterpiece. The circle motif like full silver moons - or platinum records - counterbalance the angles of the room and of the furniture. Without coincidence there are silver full moons in the most sentimental artwork in this family home.

You can probably tell from these photos that this client was not afraid of color; which is a designer's dream client. The dark blue walls were the starting point and pops of color throughout the living room and dining room is what pulled the space together. Most of their existing furniture was utilized in a new layout and new bright wall art, accessories and pillows created a fun space to entertain and relax. A sentimental antique table was utilized in the living room with new chairs for games and just hanging out with friends. My client told me that this room makes her feel "happy". That's what it's all about....making my clients happy.

Because the clients had sentimental attachment to the backsplash tile, they opted to leave them in. We blended the contemporary products in with the traditional.

For this project, we were hired to remodel the childhood home of one of the current owners of this property. The downstairs had been remodeled several years prior and with the project being a family-based one, was very sentimental and we were driven to make exactly what our clients wanted while honoring the family heritage. In order to do this, we removed all the carpet, updated the windows, removed walls between the kitchen and family room, added a powder room, updated the staircase railings, as well as renovated all two upstairs bathrooms and four bedrooms.
