We recently completed this outdoor living space for a client looking to maximize the use of her backyard. The home’s existing rear patio was small, dark and not conducive to entertaining. Our client’s wish was to create a space where she could grill and serve meals comfortably with lighting and ceiling fans for added comfort. We designed and built a new deck by building a pressure treated framework directly over the existing concrete patio, and then added Trex decking on top. We extended it out and added a beautiful cedar pergola, which makes the space architecturally stunning and allows natural light to spill through. We also added lighted ceiling fans and lanterns on the pergola columns to make the space cozy at night.

This dark and dated feeling kitchen and bar were completely renovated for this multi-generational global family. By re-configuring the space and incorporating the bar, removing several heavy columns and a wall, it made the kitchen open and accessible to the adjacent rooms and visible from the front door. Everything was lightened and brightened with new cabinetry, counter tops, appliances, flooring, paint, better windows, electrical and lighting. The old range top and down draft were enclosed in a massive brick structure, with no prep space, by removing it and centering the new range on the wall with a custom hood and full height stone back splash, a stunning focal point was created. The position of other key appliances and plumbing were moved or added to create several work stations throughout the large space, such as the refrigeration, full prep sink, coffee bar, baking station, cocktail bar and clean up island. Another special feature of this kitchen was roll out table from the end of the serving island. Specialty features include: A roll out table for eating, prep or serving; coffee bar and drink service area with beverage center; full size prep sink adjacent to refrigeration and cooking areas; steam oven and baking station; microwave/warming drawer; dual fuel range with double ovens, 6 burners and a griddle top; two separate islands, one for serving large family meals, one for clean up; specialty spice storage inserts and pull outs; corner turn outs for large items; two double pull outs for trash and recycling; stacked cabinetry with glass display at the top to take advantage of the 14' ceilings.

Rustic Style - This freestanding covered patio with an outdoor kitchen and fireplace is the perfect retreat! Just a few steps away from the home, this covered patio is about 500 square feet. The homeowner had an existing structure they wanted replaced. This new one has a custom built wood burning fireplace with an outdoor kitchen and is a great area for entertaining. The flooring is a travertine tile in a Versailles pattern over a concrete patio. The outdoor kitchen has an L-shaped counter with plenty of space for prepping and serving meals as well as space for dining. The fascia is stone and the countertops are granite. The wood-burning fireplace is constructed of the same stone and has a ledgestone hearth and cedar mantle. What a perfect place to cozy up and enjoy a cool evening outside. The structure has cedar columns and beams. The vaulted ceiling is stained tongue and groove and really gives the space a very open feel. This traditional home contained an outdated kitchen, eating area, powder room, pantry and laundry area. The spaces were reconfigured so that the kitchen occupied all of the space. What was once an opening into an under utilized hallway, became a pantry closet. A full bathroom was tucked behind the pantry into space from the breezeway.

Beauty meets function with this stunning outdoor living space! The homeowner wanted an outdoor living room, kitchen and fire feature, so we designed an L-shaped patio cover. With this design, the cover extends the length of the home and out to the side of the pool. The outdoor kitchen has a nice counter area for prepping and serving meals with a sink, fridge, ice maker and storage. There is also an RCS grill, Proline venthood and more storage space. The counters are Mont Blanc Quartzite. Flooring is Onyx & More Silver Porphyry 16X32 exterior tile from Thorntree. The Ceiling is Smokey Bourbon Woodtone prestained tongue and groove. TK IMAGES

The owners are restaurateurs with a special passion for preparing and serving meals to their patrons. This love carried over into their new outdoor living/cooking area addition. The project required taking an existing detached covered pool pavilion and expanding it into an outdoor living and kitchen destination for themselves and their guests. To start, the existing pavilion is turned into an enclosed air-conditioned kitchen space with accordion French door units on three sides to allow it to be used comfortably year round and to encourage easy circulation through it from each side. The newly expanded spaces on each side include a fireplace with a covered sitting area to the right and a covered BBQ area to the left, which ties the new structure to an existing garage storage room. This storage room is converted into another prep kitchen to help with support for larger functions. The vaulted roof structure is maintained in the renovated center space which has an existing slate roof. The two new additions on each side have a flat ceiling clad in antique tongue and groove wood with a lower pitched standing seam copper roof which helps define their function and gives dominance to the original structure in the center. With their love of entertaining through preparing and serving food, this transformed outdoor space will continue to be a gathering place enjoyed by family and friends in every possible setting.

Modern form is married with elegant function in this open-floor-plan apartment in the heart of Chelsea, NYC. Award-winning interior designer, Jo Ann Alston, transformed the outdated elements of this upscale unit to create a timeless, yet modern aesthetic, with clean, natural lines that bespeak both luxury and ease. This charmingly functional kitchen now serves as the focal point for cooking, convening, and entertaining, for the whole family and their numerous guests. Careful planning and selection were required to effectively work within the parameters of the open floor plan to create a seamless flow from the kitchen to the living room. The existing cabinets, countertops, and appliances were all replaced, the wood flooring was refinished, and an elegant bar area was incorporated into the dining room, doubling as a bar for entertaining and a buffet for serving meals. In the kitchen, European, high-gloss lacquer was selected for the minimalist-modern cabinetry and coordinated with flooring and Dekton countertops, whose practicality and functionality are especially well-suited for NYC apartment homeowners with a penchant for entertaining. For the sight lines from the living room to the kitchen to be seamless and uninterrupted, the refrigerator is concealed within the cabinetry and the range is hidden from sight behind the island. A dramatic light fixture above the dining room island and tasteful uplighting and downlighting offer especially compelling views of the kitchen when viewed from the living room, while glass cabinets with brass trim and accent lighting visually expand the width of the space. Touches of luxury such as the brass faucet and brass-framed glass cabinets visually harmonize with the colors in the waterfall designed Dekton countertop, the game-stopper feature of the large kitchen island. A clean, light-wood back splash at the bar corresponds effortlessly with the newly refinished wood flooring, further enhancing the soft and natural vibe of the entire apartment. This elegant stroke of design genius is proof positive that you need not compromise timeless elegance for practical, modern features in an uncluttered, even minimalist environment. The brilliance of this design is not limited to its balanced and graceful aesthetic appeal.
