Cramped space, narrow doorways, and dated cabinets – that is what the Trupe's had. The time was right to set a transformation in motion. The first step was to call Amos from ALL Renovation & Design. They had been friends for the past 20 years, thanks to a deck he had built for them. And Amos immediately caught their vision for the kitchen. More space. An island for entertainment. And a striking look. The Trupe's dream kitchen wasn't going to be without challenges. The door leading to the outside had to go. But how to match the 20-year-old siding? The narrow doorway between the kitchen and the dining room had to go too. But what to do with the wires in the wall? And though getting rid of the outside door and the doorway gave more room, how would an island, big enough to be useful, fit? Space. That was the challenge. Countless design concepts. Countless ideas to work through. From the beginning, Amos committed to the extra mile. Once the island size and cabinet placement were decided, Amos’s team began work in earnest. The custom-built oak cabinets with an espresso stain finish were the starting place for the project. All other colors and materials were chosen to compliment the cabinetry. Like the Daltile glazed porcelain tile floor in the Saddle Brook style and the Farmhouse color. The backsplash proved to be a challenge. Have you ever settled on the absolutely perfect option only to find that it is forever discontinued by the manufacturer? That's what happened. Thankfully the Trupe's second choice of Anatolia Bliss Fusion Ice mosaic blended beautifully with the granite countertop. Amazingly, the team was able to match the 20-year-old siding perfectly. The corner cabinet took creativity as well. Cutting the corner (literally) did the trick. By adding a corner cabinet and cutting the corner of the island countertop, the Trupe's are delighted to have a usable walkway around the island. “It sounds trivial,” Mr. Trupe remembers, but, instead of going with a plain side to the wood-work around the fridge, the ALL R&D team suggested matching the detail of the cabinet paneling: “I love it.” Trivial? Not at all. That is part of making your dreams even better in reality.

2010 NARI CAPITAL COTY FINALIST AWARD WINNER Project Scope: Transform a little-used room in the client’s lower level into an entertainment center, featuring a 1,500-bottle refrigerated wine cabinet, a wet bar, a custom-made bookshelves surround for existing hearth, and television hanging built-ins. Challenges: Primary technical challenge was to find a way to unobtrusively install a large “split system” chilling unit to service the wine cooler. Solutions The contractor started with a rectangular space that was appreciably stripped down, except for the fireplace at the far end. An adjacent room housed a professional pool table. The client’s primary concern was how to situate the custom-built wine rack were to specify and fabricate. Although there was plenty of space in niche to the left of the stairway, there was no obvious way to locate the wine rack’s chilling unit for ducting and chiller unit. Both client and contractor agreed that the logical setting for the rack would be along the short wall adjacent to the room’s entrance. But the short wall afforded no room for the chiller, a “split system” unit that needed adequate “breathing room” to avoid overheating After many design sketches, the contractor had a tentative solution: house the chilling unit in a utility room behind the stairs leading to the basement. This would keep the unit out of sight and muffle the sound of the compressor. Then question was how to “circumnavigate” the stairwell and run plumbing lines from the utility room – which was about 20 feet away — to the rack. A floor-level path would be exposed to possible damage and aesthetically unpleasing. Installing the line in the concrete slab flooring would be difficult and expensive – and any repairs to the line would mean tearing up the floor.The only alternative, the contractor suggested, would be to route the lines overhead – run them straight up from the chilling unit, over the joists above, and around the back of the stair case. Once past the staircase, it was straight shot above the joists to the short wall; the lines would then run behind the wall to the wine cooler resting on the floor. This highly creative solution pleased the client greatly: it not only isolated the chilling unit, but allowed it to be easily serviced; the lines were protected and out of sight; and the wine rack – situated as it was in the room – seemed like it was part of the original house design. At that point, the contractor needed a wine rack design that seemed equally “original” to the home – and here, too, the challenge was met. Custom-built cabinetry span the length of the wall, with two floor-level cabinets flanking the wine cooler. Above, twin glass-facing walnut displays – lighted and rising nearly to the ceiling – rest on a black marble countertop, showcasing the client’s impressive wine collection. On the long wall perpendicular to the rack, a widescreen television hangs between two built-in bookcases designed by the contractor. The firm also fabricated the two bookcases now flanking the original fireplace in the far end wall – as well as the glass-faced hanging cabinets which are lighted above the newly installed wet bar.

The Don Fuego Dispensary interior design captures the vibrant essence of Día de los Muertos with a contemporary twist, creating an immersive and culturally rich experience for visitors. The space is characterized by a bold combination of traditional Mexican elements and modern aesthetics, blending authenticity with a moody, sophisticated atmosphere. As you enter, custom arches inspired by traditional Mexican architecture frame the space, their curves softened by the rich texture of black limewash on the walls. The deep matte finish of the limewash evokes a sense of mystery and depth, perfectly contrasted by the vibrant orange Roman clay accents, which add warmth and echo the festive tones of Día de los Muertos. The floor is a standout feature, designed with epoxy that mimics the swirling effect of smoke, giving the sensation of walking on mist. This unique texture adds an ethereal, dreamlike quality to the space, reinforcing the moody and mystical ambiance. At the heart of the dispensary is a custom-built checkout counter, designed to blend seamlessly into the aesthetic with its sculptural form and hand-crafted details. Behind the counter, custom LED signs illuminate with soft, glowing light, displaying Don Fuego's logo and thematic phrases, all in a style that mirrors the playful yet reverent nature of Mexican art. Murals adorn the walls, celebrating the artistry of Día de los Muertos, with intricate, colorful depictions of alebrijes, marigolds, and traditional imagery, all carefully integrated into the overall design. These murals not only serve as striking visual focal points but also as a tribute to the cultural significance of honoring the dead. To complete the atmosphere, moody lighting casts soft shadows throughout the space, enhancing the deep hues of the limewash and clay walls. This creates an intimate, almost otherworldly setting that invites customers to explore, linger, and enjoy the sensory experience that is Don Fuego. The overall design balances celebration with sophistication, making Don Fuego a modern-day altar to culture, creativity, and the spirit of Día de los Muertos.

Chilliwack is known for its mountains, rivers and forests, and these beautiful single-family homes make the most of the idyllic setting. Custom millwork throughout—including stunning panels at the entryways—and cast stone fireplace surrounds infuse the interiors with an easy, natural sophistication.

We worked closely with these creative homeowners who had envisioned a scandinavian style rehab of this freshwater lakeside property at the beach. In such a unique setting, our design response was to compliment the new house’s aesthetic with a minimalist, grass forward, textural landscape that will animate the coastal airflow beautifully. Inspiration was taken from the wild clethra and bayberry we found growing undisturbed lakeside, and so you’ll find these in our plant choices that seek to emulate the dunes and forest edge nearby. Phase 2 involved the planting of the steep backyard, previously dominated by lawn. In its place you’ll now find a coastal habitat garden that complements the cottage’s minimalist exterior with lush, billowy, texture, color and structural forms that are drought tolerant, ecologically beneficial and low maintenance.

When a young professional couple approached us to decorate the main floor of their brand new modern townhouse in Port Coquitlam, we were very excited. Having moved from a Gastown condo, the couple was eager to infuse this suburban location with a funky yet sophisticated downtown vibe. They were also looking for a neutral backdrop with some hits of colour and asked us to incorporate wallpaper. The statement artwork that we selected above the fireplace set the tone for this project. We started with a pair of sleek neutral leather sofas to maximize seating in the small living space and layered them with a variety of toss pillows in blues, teals & turquoise then added a few pops of orange. We defined the front entrance and dining area with a stunning marbleized grey and white wallpaper by Graham and Brown. The dark wood furniture in the dining area adds contrast and sophistication balancing the dark stained kitchen cabinets opposite. The resulting look is clean, modern and playful.
