This Birmingham Michigan condo was looking for a way to screen the traffic from Woodward Avenue. They wanted to keep the buffer natural but have it grow to become thick enough to filter out the light and noise. Since the site was some what shady and they wanted year round screening. We installed Nigra (dark green) Arborvitae. The will grow to form a living wall that will look beautiful year round and thrive under the canopy of the large evergreens surrounded by the existing ground cover. Our crew was very careful to not disturb either during the installation. Landforms Inc.

Whether or not the fire is lit, it is a favorite foliage-wrapped retreat for reading and morning coffee.

This style landscape isn't for everyone, however it suits this owner perfectly. The awesome, colorful garden in the only sunny area on this several acre site is planted on a high mound that diverts all water either to the huge french drains that run along the house or the driveway that drains into the rain garden. The drainage problems are solved and the owner has the style of garden she desired: a very full, colorful, drought tolerant, easy maintenance cottage garden that attracts birds and butterflies. It's also dog friendly. Plants were chosen to be either something that the does can walk on or walk thru without causing damage. They also LOVE napping on the wide shady path along the house which doubles as the french drain.

A new stairway and pathway alongside the outdoor dining area is constructed with Sonoma fieldstone, Full Color Bluestone and small Mexican pebbles. The grasses, Pennisetum 'Karly Rose' (Oriental fountain grass), and low growing Nepeta (Catmint) soften the hardscape edges nicely. The removal of the dense and overgrown shrubs and trees provide more outdoor space for dining and entertaining, less maintenance. And now with site-appropriate plants and no lawn, a lower water bill for the homeowners, while offering a contemporary landscape transformation. A variety of low-water plants including succulents offer year-round appeal and interest throughout the seasons. Photos and Design © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

This stunning Carriage House, built in 1903, inspired our team to honor its history and alchemize the feeling of a natural haven on-site through our design choices. The front lawn was converted to a habitat-rich meadow with flowering natives such as Agastache foeniculum (Anise hyssop), Rudbeckia fulgida (Black-Eyed Susan), and Clethra alnifolia ‘Ruby Spice’ (Summersweet). A fern-filled woodland (including Polystichum acrostichoides and Athyrium filix-femina), was installed in the shady side beds. Despite development encroaching upon this treasured spot over the decades, thoughtful landscape design and maintenance has helped retain its age-old beauty and charm.

The fire table was custom built with on site forms, and the same is true for the custom concrete bench and stone backrest. The patio is made of Flagstone with a concrete underslab. Under the concrete seat we wire bench to have low voltage lighting

Rock outcroppings make a striking background for new lounge areas in this compact Los Angeles hillside garden. Working with the attributes of the site, we added native plants to drape over the stone, and converted hollowed stone planters into a firepit and water feature. New built-in seating and a cozy hammock complete the relaxing space, and dramatic lighting makes it come alive at night.

Teaming with Polly Osborne Architects, Rana Creek created a landscape design that situates a new residential building within the surrounding region of Three Rivers, California. Because of the site’s location adjacent to the river, the concept for the garden design aims to recreate a thriving native riparian habitat while also providing a shady strolling garden connecting the house to the river. A key feature of the design is a living wall adorning the garage’s façade. A series of custom aluminum baskets hold the growing medium and the interconnected, swirling paths of endemic plants. The wall is at once beautiful and functional in its ability to absorb storm water and filter the air. Rain water captured from the garage roof irrigates the living wall for most of the year.

This elegantly appointed custom home is sited on a corner lot and enjoys a southern exposure and quiet village location. Diagonally set antique Chicago brick adds character to the patio and walkways, and mature lush landscaping including two producing citrus trees create a tropical oasis. The deep covered loggia with built-in barbecue and fireplace offers a shady retreat for outdoor entertaining or relaxing by the pool. At the far end of the pool, a charming arched staircase leads to the carriage house. Photograph Aric Attas. Copyright Windsor.

Achillea Terra cotta - Yarrow, along with hens and chicks succulents, echeveria elegance. This expansive back yard landscape with several mature oak trees and a stunning Golden Locust tree has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor retreat. The renovations include a wraparound deck, an expansive travertine natural stone patio, stairways and pathways along with concrete retaining walls and column accents with dramatic planters. The pathways meander throughout the landscape... some with travertine stepping stones and gravel and those below the majestic oaks left natural with fallen leaves. Raised vegetable beds and fruit trees occupy some of the sunniest areas of the landscape. A variety of low-water and low-maintenance plants for both sunny and shady areas include several succulents, grasses, CA natives and other site-appropriate Mediterranean plants complimented by a variety of boulders. Dramatic white pots provide architectural accents, filled with succulents and citrus trees. Design, Photos, Drawings © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design
