When homeowners Garry and Sherry bought their 1799 farmhouse in Lancaster, they prepared themselves for many years of renovation: 28 years, to be exact. They gradually tackled inside projects like the master bath, basement, a recent kitchen remodel and even an office-turned-Irish pub. During one painfully hot summer, they installed a pool that became their go-to for summer entertainment and parties. Now, Garry and Sherry’s four children have grown and the couple has found free time in not devoting their days to hockey, volleyball and softball games. So several years ago, they decided to take on the outdoor space.
The couple contacted Bobby Kenyon and Adrian Kapp of C.E. Pontz (www.cepontzsons.com) to create a design that would blend with the rustic look of their farmhouse. They hoped to increase the amount of entertaining space by enlarging the patio area and adding a pavilion and outdoor kitchen. Another must-have was a covered area that could ensure the party would not end even if the weather would not cooperate. After brainstorming with Bobby and Adrian, they decided to include a gas fireplace, an outdoor television in the pavilion, and a Kegerator in the kitchen.
For the outdoor overhaul, C.E. Pontz began by adding two separate patios of flagstone and natural stone that combine to a total area of 1,100 square feet. They laid large stone slabs to create a walkway connecting the kitchen and living area. For sunny days, C.E. Pontz installed an outdoor kitchen complete with granite countertops, sink, gas burner, grill and storage area. A pergola above the grill offers shade to whomever is tending the tongs that night. Sherry said that having an outdoor kitchen has made entertaining a time for sharing and enjoying food rather than preparing and serving it. When their indoor kitchen was being remodeled last summer, the family prepared nearly all of their meals outdoors, from eggs at breakfast to pasta at dinner. And they still love the summer staple of anything with grill marks. Because the perfect addition to charred meats and veggies is usually a cold draft, C.E. Pontz completed the kitchen with a Kegerator, placed conveniently in arm’s reach of the guest seating.
Across the walkway and above the adjoining stone patio, C.E. Pontz built a 16- by 20-foot pavilion, or, essentially, a living room under the trees. A fan hanging from the vaulted ceiling keeps guests cool while they lounge in plush wicker chairs, watching television. Sherry and Garry furnished the space with dark wicker seating from Wicker Imports in Lancaster (www.wickerimportsonline.com). They added pillows and cushions in earth-toned patterns for extra comfort and color. To keep the space alive after the sun sets, they decorated with lots of candles as well as copper lighting that Garry, having an electrical background, installed himself. Plus, C.E. Pontz constructed a gas-fed stone fireplace just outside the pavilion that illuminates the living area and provides a cozy warmth in colder months.
Garry, who has a green thumb according to his wife, sets out 18 to 20 large planters around the pool and patio in the summer. These complement the roses, nandina and various grasses that C.E. Pontz used to landscape around the patios. In spring, the couple works to beautify the beds so that in summer, they simply need to water the plants and enjoy the flora.
“It is truly an outdoor oasis that we utilize during the warm months and are sorry to see closed during the winter months,” Sherry says. After nearly thirty years of transformation, their 217-year-old home is the entertaining hot spot for friends, family and grandkids.
Fun Facts:
A Kegerator? Simpler than it sounds, a Kegerator is a dispensing device connected to a keg (typically of beer) that is kept in a refrigerated container. It maintains the quality of the beer for longer periods of time, even for several months.
Approximately 60 tons of stone base material were used for this project.
Two patios were added that combined a total area of 1,100 square feet of natural flagstone.
This landscape features about 18,000 pounds of flagstone.

Designed by The Kitchen Source and Heritage Design Studio, this English Arts and Crafts inspired kitchen was created to feel like the English countryside. Located in Texas, the open plan home combines the kitchen with an informal seating area for guests to chat with the cook, in addition to a bright and airy breakfast room off the left, and a formal dining room off the right. The kitchen is a masterpiece of design, utilizing a combination of Wood-Mode door styles - Colony Recessed, Edgemont Recessed, and Lancaster Recessed – in complementary English-inspired colors of Pale Spring and Vintage Cadet Blue. No detail was overlooked from hand-hewn beams to custom-made solid wood countertops, and custom appliance panels with diamond shaped Gothic mullion inserts. And the details aren’t simply superficial. Behind every drawer and cabinet door hides organizational extras such as a peg drawer to hold dishware; Walnut adjustable drawer partitions and cutlery dividers; and integrated lighting within drawers and cabinets and under-cabinet and wall cabinet integrated lighting makes it easy to find whatever cooking essential is needed.

Marc and Mandy Maister were clients and fans of Cantoni before they purchased this harbor home on Balboa Island. The South African natives originally met designer Sarah Buehlman and Cantoni’s Founder and CEO Michael Wilkov at a storewide sale, and quickly established a relationship as they bought furnishings for their primary residence in Newport Beach.
So, when the couple decided to invest in this gorgeous second home, in one of the ritziest enclaves in North America, they sought Sarah’s help in transforming the outdated 1960’s residence into a modern marvel. “It’s now the ultimate beach house,” says Sarah, “and finished in Cantoni from top to bottom—including new custom cabinetry installed throughout.”
But let’s back up. This project began when Mandy contacted Sarah in the midst of the remodel process (in December 2010), asking if she could come take a look and help with the overall design.
“The plans were being drawn up with an architect, and they opted not to move anything major. Instead, they updated everything—as in the small carpeted staircase that became a gorgeous glass and metal sculpture,” Sarah explains. She took photographs and measurements, and then set to work creating the scaled renderings. “Marc and Mandy were drawn to the One and Only Collection. It features a high-gloss brown and white color scheme which served as inspiration for the project,” says Sarah.
Primary pieces in the expansive living area include the Mondrian leather sectional, the Involution sculpture, and a pair of Vladimir Kagan Corkscrew swivel chairs. The Maisters needed a place to house all their electronics but didn’t want a typical entertainment center. The One and Only buffet was actually modified by our skilled shop technicians, in our distribution center, so it could accommodate all the couple’s media equipment. “These artisans are another one of our hidden strengths—in addition to the design tools, inventory and extensive resources we have to get a job done,” adds Sarah. Marc and Mandy also fell in love with the exotic Makassar ebony wood in the Ritz Collection, which Sarah combined in the master bedroom with the Ravenna double chaise to provide an extra place to sit and enjoy the beautiful harbor views.
Beyond new furnishings, the Maisters also decided to completely redo their kitchen. And though Marc and Mandy did not have a chance to actually see our kitchen displays, having worked with Sarah over the years, they had immense trust in our commitment to craftsmanship and quality. In fact, they opted for new cabinetry in four bathrooms as well as the laundry room based on our 3D renderings and lacquer samples alone—without ever opening a drawer. “Their trust in my expertise and Cantoni’s reputation were a major deciding factor,” says Sarah.
This plush second home, complete with a private boat dock right out back, counts as one of Sarah’s proudest accomplishments. “These long-time clients are great. They love Cantoni and appreciate high quality Italian furnishings in particular. The home is so gorgeous that once you are inside and open the Nano doors, you simply don’t want to leave.” The job took almost two years to complete, but everyone seems quite happy with the results, proving that large or small—and in cases necessitating a quick turnaround or execution of a long-term vision—Cantoni has the resources to come through for all clients.

The "before" kitchen was tired and dated. The homeowners were in desperate need of extra light. Simply installing recessed lights in the existing ceilings was not an option since they wanted to maintain the vaulted ceilings made of wormy chestnut wood. Instead, a 27” deep by 12” tall soffit was added above the cabinets for placement of additional recessed lights. The existing kitchen had separate entrances to the pantry and laundry rooms. The new layout combines those two rooms with one entrance. The result is adequate room on the kitchen wall side to cluster the appliances and provide more cabinets. A full granite riser backsplash adds to this dramatic transformation.
Wood Wise provided all design. Kathy Walker designed the cabinet plan and assisted homeowners with all showroom selections.

The cabinets are painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite and we did an extra coat to get them almost black, before applying the top clear wax coat.
The cabinets pulls are matte black from Top Knobs
The cabinets themselves were existing from IKEA.
The backsplash is a white carrera marble 2x2 in a honed finish, which almost sparkles when the sunlight hits.

This transitional bright south Tulsa kitchen features two islands. The first is the homeowner's cooking centric island housing an induction cooktop below a stainless professional vent hood, the super-functional Galley Workstation with plenty of base cabinet storage below, round seating area on one side with a waterfall edge counter on the other. The second smaller island features glass front base cabinets for storing plates and glassware on one side and bar sink, under-counter beverage refrigerator and base storage on the other.
The natural wood flooring offsets the bright cabinets perfectly. The professional stainless steel appliances housed in both tall storage and base storage (which include but are not limited to a Sub-Zero side-by-side freezer and refrigerator and Bosch dishwasher on one side of the clean-up sink with Bosch under-counter drawer microwave joining the Bosch double ovens on the other).
The combination of tall pantry storage, standard wall cabinets and glass front counter-top height cabinets add the perfect extra storage touch to a kitchen already loaded with storage options.
The layout of this kitchen is both functional and beautiful. With the super cool Beatles artwork on the walls, we simply had to call this kitchen we designed, 'Beautiful Rock Star'!

Design objectives for the remodel were aimed at giving the kitchen a larger feel, more room for cooking and extra seating for entertaining:
-Island with seating
-Space for a larger range/cooking area
-More storage with cabinets to the ceiling
-Making the original dining room blend with the kitchen so it all feels like one space
Design challenges to be solved:
-Making the header between the kitchen and the old dining room make sense as we combined the two spaces
-Avoid feeling crammed – a large island with seating still needed space for people walking around the space
-Refrigerator location – the header and window placements needed to stay, so finding a new and functional place for the fridge was a priority
-Add a large hood for wow-factor appeal
Design solutions fell into place as the overall layout came together:
-A large island to seat their four-person family comfortably. -Seating on two sides of the island improves conversation and has a great look.
-Knocking out a dining room wall gave us more room for the island. The leftover part of the dining was perfect for a dry bar/beverage area.
-The refrigerator needed to blend in and also be easily accessible. We removed the built-in pantry and used this space to house the refrigerator/freezer. Then we added tall pantry cabinets throughout the kitchen to make up for the loss of space.
-A large metal hood broke up the space and made for a fun statement piece
The new space is perfect for family time when the kids are back. It’s more conducive for being together, hanging out together, and entertaining with different friend groups together… the family simply spends more time together when they’re together in their new space.
“It’s the design and the openness,” the mom says. “Everybody loves it and gathers around the island all the time. It’s the lighting, too – it’s brighter in here. It’s just more open. We love it!”

We recently worked with a designer [who also happens to be a great friend] on this project where we provided the blinds throughout the home and installed drapery side panels in many of the rooms. Without draperies these walls would have been lacking a little.
Often times, we have clients that simply want a functional window covering that gets the job done on a budget. That's where our Fauxwood window blinds fit the bill. In this home, they wanted a little something extra.
It's nice to finish a project and step back to look at the way the colors and the patterns in the draperies finish the room and help to bring the whole project together.

This client initially retained us to design & build an addition but after an in-depth review of the house and the family's need we were able to create the ideal space by simply re-configuring the existing square footage. The dining room was over-sized and underused, which allowed us to relocate a primary wall in the kitchen to create a much larger foot print. Additionally we added an extra window to allow more natural light in. Once that was complete, the client felt the elegance we had in mind and enjoyed what felt like a completely new home

Rev-A-Shelf's fillers revolutionized otherwise wasted space in your kitchen. Normally a "filler" or extra space is simply covered up with a decorative front, but with Rev-A-Shelf's line of fillers, it turns that otherwise wasted space in to useful space. Fillers are intended to be installed in new kitchen cabinet construction and will not work in existing cabinets. The 434 Series is available for 3" and 6" widths and features a magnetic stainless panel that includes multiple hooks and pegs for multiple configurations.
