The owners of this classic century home wanted to install a pool for cooling dips, a hot tub to extend the season plus have enough patio space for lounging. To make room in their small backyard they had to remove an existing large raised concrete terrace with integral ledgerock walls.

This tiny suburban Toronto yard contained a small flagstone patio and a small patch of lawn. The children were now in their teens, so the lawn was no longer needed as a play area and was the perfect size for a "plunge" pool. The patio was slightly enlarged and re-configured to integrate with a small pool featuring matching natural stone coping and a limestone water feature. The remaining perimeter was filled with a colourful mix of plantings and shrubs. It's a small area, but it was put to good use. (12 x 27, humpback kidney)

This suburban Toronto family had a small backyard which they outfitted for recreation and entertaining. The focal point is a symmetrical cloverleaf plunge pool which has a uniform depth of six feet. Perched on a hillside cul-de-sac lot in Brentwood CA, the Gagne Residence enjoys an unusually private street condition and views toward the ocean, city, and surrounding tree lined hills. To maximize dwelling and garden area on the mostly sloped site, the house is broken into two general volumes, one volume responding to the level and orientation of the street, the other, wrapping and descending along the hill’s contour, acting as retainer while providing a third dwelling level and preserving ample area for a garden.
