The transitional elements carry throughout this home inside and out: the square columns, clean structural design of both window and roof lines, and the sharp lines of the pool and patio. The Herringbone patterned bricks surround the rectangular pool and spa add just the right texture to this back yard retreat.

A Lake Michigan Home gets a Modern Refresh from Dresner Design. Photos by Tony Soluri. This couple moved from Chicago’s Wicker Park to a rural setting but wanted to maintain their modern aesthetic. Scott Dresner of Dresner Design created a light bright clean-lined kitchen perfect for the couple’s need to entertain. Must have’s included a drawer for over sixty spices, storage for three sets of dishes, a coffee bar, and a huge island the couple uses for entertaining. The palette is mostly white to maximize outdoor views. Constraints were plenty both timeline and budgetary. Dresner came up with some creative solutions, which allowed the homeowners to save on cabinetry and materials and splurge on appliances.

Karen Palmer Photography The lower level was the ideal space for kids to hang out. The space features a gas fireplace and large wall on the opposite side to house the TV and endless array of games. We selected furniture that was kid- friendly without breaking the budget. Leather and micro-fiber were the perfect fabric selections for the children's area. Spills and messes can easily be wiped away. The white lacquered furniture is also childproof. The pops of tangerine are echoed with splashes of color here and there.

All dressed up for a wedding. We took a lovely entry and updated it with a landscape full of color and the soothing sounds of water. The first photo shown in the project is the design created in Photoshop. This gives the client an idea of how the finished project should look once the landscape matures. We used a simple color scheme of red, orange, yellow and white to compliment the house and walkway. The containers are Vietnamese pottery converted or plumbed into water vessels. The are positioned over an underground reservoir where the water spills through a rock bed and is recirculated through the pottery.
