Inspiration for a 1960s gray floor kitchen/dining room combo remodel with white walls

This midcentury split level needed an entire gut renovation to bring it into the current century. Keeping the design simple and modern, we updated every inch of this house, inside and out, holding true to era appropriate touches.

This split-level home in the Castro Valley Hills contained multiple different floor levels and was segmented by walls, creating a kitchen with wasted space and a tiny dining room that could hardly fit a table for four. Ridgecrest took down the walls in the main living space to create a great room that is perfect for family time and entertaining. This completely custom kitchen features customized inset cabinetry, a matte black steel range hood, white oak floating shelves, a one-of-a-kind white oak pantry door with a steel mesh panel, steel mesh panels on the wall cabinetry, and beautiful black marbled quartz countertops. The satin brass hardware and fixtures pop against the white and black surfaces. The kitchen window opens across a passthrough countertop for outdoor entertaining. In the living room, a floor-to-ceiling concrete colored quartz fireplace is surrounded by a custom white oak entertainment center.

This staircase is more than just steps, risers and a railing. We wanted to capture another view of the lake each and every time you climb the stairs, and we knew we accomplished this when the homeowner said this was his favorite space!

Inspiration for a modern exterior home remodel in New York

we took this tired split level NJ home and created an open, modern floor plan complete with transparent stairway railings. we updated the floors to be slate and walnut wood. the end result was a new modern clean interior.

Screened Porches Screened porches make up the rear of the house, but one can see the covered side porch at left (with Master Bath shower above) and the new back deck at the right. Usage of low maintenance materials, refinishing and reusing cabinets, and reallocating space instead of changing the home’s footprint kept this project green. Clients were also able to live on site during the renovation due to the low-VOC and water-based finishes, and our constant indoor air-quality monitoring. The entry and main floor, kitchen, and both baths now feel fresh, airy, and spacious, allowing for immediate relaxation in taking in natural light, water views and sunsets from this West Seattle split-level home.

This 1964 split-level looked like every other house on the block before adding a 1,000sf addition over the existing Living, Dining, Kitchen and Family rooms. New siding, trim and columns were added throughout, while the existing brick remained.

This view from the den captures the seamless transition from the lower level to the newly renovated main floor in this Arlington Heights split-level home. We rebuilt the staircase, creating a functional focal point with rich dark-stained wood treads and crisp white risers that integrate beautifully with the new custom beadboard paneling and built-in storage benches. This perspective perfectly illustrates how custom millwork can define spaces while improving flow, turning a once-closed-off staircase into a cohesive design element that connects the remodeled den to the heart of the home.

A split level home with brick and wood siding, painted and remodelled. A new roof was added over the front door area, creating a focal point. The body of the home is Benjamin Moore Ballet White, the trim is Benjamin Moore Willow and the front door was Sherwin Williams Determined Orange. Slight mid century details.

This well-loved 1960’s split-level home was in need of a makeover both in terms of design and function! OPEN CONCEPT Our clients wanted an open-concept layout for their Lower-Level and Main Floor spaces. This was no easy feat, given that the split-level construction of this home isolated the Kitchen and Family Room from the rest of the house. But we rose to the challenge! How did we do it?! To bring more harmony to this 1960’s closed off split-level construction, we enlarged the entryways of the Kitchen and the Dining Room across the Hallway to brighten up the two rooms and allow for better traffic flow between them. The worn out mixed flooring materials were replaced with new porcelain tiles in the Foyer and new beautiful engineered hardwood floors unified all three levels. The 3 sets of staircases were updated for safety by raising the railing to Building Code Standards. Then they were redressed with new black metal pickets, Oak treads, posts and handrails. KITCHEN The tight kitchen with a dysfunctional layout was brought back to life with the creation of new dining and working zones and plenty of counter space and concealed storage. How did we do it?! A peninsula serving as the Breakfast table was installed along shallow-depth cabinetry as you enter the Kitchen. The fridge, stove and sink were relocated to the end of the Kitchen with big windows and more counter space. A row of tall pantries and an appliance garage were installed along one side of the room to offer plenty of storage and hide frequently used small appliances. FAMILY ROOM Our Clients spent a lot of time in their Family Room but felt isolated from the rest of the house when they were in it. The room was dim and the stone-clad wood burning fireplace, which they rarely used, took up a lot of space. Here’s how we gave this Family Room a makeover Removing dated wainscoting and wallpaper and replacing it with freshly painted walls in neutral tones with an accent colour catapulted this Family Room out of the stone ages! The stone-clad fireplace in the middle of the room was removed and replaced with a slim electric fireplace at one end of the room.
