Our Seattle studio designed this stunning 5,000+ square foot Snohomish home to make it comfortable and fun for a wonderful family of six. On the main level, our clients wanted a mudroom. In the primary bedroom, we used neutral grasscloth wallpaper that adds texture, warmth, and a bit of sophistication to the space creating a relaxing retreat for the couple. We used rustic wood shiplap and deep navy tones to define the boys' rooms, while soft pinks, peaches, and purples were used to make a pretty, idyllic little girls' room. A gorgeous new banquet adorned with blue patterned cushioning is the focal point in this newly renovated kitchen. The large corner windows, which offer plenty of natural light, along with the crisp white pendant light and kitchen table, offers a clean design that beautifully pairs with the medium-dark hardwood floors. This chic project was a lot of fun! As the general contractors on the job, we were tasked with jobs such as wrapping the double-floor story column with rope, installing a floor to ceiling wood panel wall covering with shelving, installing new porcelain tile flooring, a staircase banister made of rope and squeezing in a very small kitchen on top of all the other normal job site items. The outcome is this beautiful, beach-chic, cozy home in the heart of South Beach with plush, green surroundings.

Elizabeth Leonard- The home owner wanted to squeeze in a veggie garden without sacrificing too much of her yard where her children play, as well as securing the garden from the local deer population. For an added touch we planted deer resistant herbs and ornamentals surrounding the enclosure. We succeeded in providing an aesthetically pleasing garden that produced enough for this small family, by using the space she had effectively. The deer fencing blends into the environment while securing her harvest . All while staying within her budget.

A very small backyard nestled into the edge of a steep slope was the beginning of this space. Further the client, a Sea Captain wanted a copper roof over the patio to amplify the sound of falling rain. Terrain worked closely with the designers to squeeze in an upper IPE entertaining deck, spiral staircase and gas fire pit all clad with sheets of custom made copper. The garden has aged to a beautiful patina and the area is enjoyed year round by the clients. Designed by Dakota Designs.

This Grant Park house was built in 1999. With that said, this bathroom was dated, builder grade with a tiny shower (3 ft x 3 ft) and a large jacuzzi-style 90s tub. The client was interested in a much larger shower, and he really wanted a sauna if squeeze it in there. Because this bathroom was tight, I decided we could potentially go into the large walk-in closet and expand to include a sauna. The client was looking for a refreshing coastal theme, a feel good space that was completely different than what existed. Talk about your small spaces. In this case we had to squeeze a full bath into a powder room-sized room of only 5’ x 7’. The ceiling height also comes into play sloping downward from 90” to 71” under the roof of a second floor dormer in this Cape-style home. We stripped the room bare and scrutinized how we could minimize the visual impact of each necessary bathroom utility. The bathroom was transitioning along with its occupant from young boy to teenager. The existing bathtub and shower curtain by far took up the most visual space within the room. Eliminating the tub and introducing a curbless shower with sliding glass shower doors greatly enlarged the room. Now that the floor seamlessly flows through out the room it magically feels larger. We further enhanced this concept with a floating vanity. Although a bit smaller than before, it along with the new wall-mounted medicine cabinet sufficiently handles all storage needs. We chose a comfort height toilet with a short tank so that we could extend the wood countertop completely across the sink wall. The longer countertop creates opportunity for decorative effects while creating the illusion of a larger space. Floating shelves to the right of the vanity house more nooks for storage and hide a pop-out electrical outlet. The clefted slate target wall in the shower sets up the modern yet rustic aesthetic of this bathroom, further enhanced by a chipped high gloss stone floor and wire brushed wood countertop. I think it is the style and placement of the wall sconces (rated for wet environments) that really make this space unique. White ceiling tile keeps the shower area functional while allowing us to extend the white along the rest of the ceiling and partially down the sink wall – again a room-expanding trick. This is a small room that makes a big splash!
