Squeezing by the washer and dryer at the start and end of each day, my clients could not help but be reminded of an endless chore — laundry! Relocating the laundry facilities and designing a proper mudroom allows for a smoother, stress-free transition when the family enters and exits their home.

Tim & Elissa have a beautiful home in the most desirable Wyomissing neighborhood. Broad sidewalks under stately oaks, with nearby parks makes it a perfect place to raise a growing family. But their 2-bedroom mid-century rancher was becoming a squeeze. They asked Spring Creek Design to come up with a cost-effective solution to their space problem, while also tackling some of the home’s aged infrastructure.
Design Criteria:
- Increase living space by adding a new 2nd storey Master Suite.
- Enhance livability with an open floorplan on the first floor.
- Improve the connection to the outdoors.
- Update basics systems with new windows, HVAC and insulation.
- Update interior with paint & refinished floors.
Special Features:
- Bright, mid-century modern design is true to the home’s vintage.
- Custom steel cable railings at both stairways.
- New open plan creates strong connections between kitchen, living room, dining room and deck.
- High-performance Pella windows throughout, including a new triple-panel slider to the deck.

Our Seattle studio designed this stunning 5,000+ square foot Snohomish home to make it comfortable and fun for a wonderful family of six.
On the main level, our clients wanted a mudroom. So we removed an unused hall closet and converted the large full bathroom into a powder room. This allowed for a nice landing space off the garage entrance. We also decided to close off the formal dining room and convert it into a hidden butler's pantry. In the beautiful kitchen, we created a bright, airy, lively vibe with beautiful tones of blue, white, and wood. Elegant backsplash tiles, stunning lighting, and sleek countertops complete the lively atmosphere in this kitchen.
On the second level, we created stunning bedrooms for each member of the family. In the primary bedroom, we used neutral grasscloth wallpaper that adds texture, warmth, and a bit of sophistication to the space creating a relaxing retreat for the couple. We used rustic wood shiplap and deep navy tones to define the boys' rooms, while soft pinks, peaches, and purples were used to make a pretty, idyllic little girls' room.
In the basement, we added a large entertainment area with a show-stopping wet bar, a large plush sectional, and beautifully painted built-ins. We also managed to squeeze in an additional bedroom and a full bathroom to create the perfect retreat for overnight guests.
For the decor, we blended in some farmhouse elements to feel connected to the beautiful Snohomish landscape. We achieved this by using a muted earth-tone color palette, warm wood tones, and modern elements. The home is reminiscent of its spectacular views – tones of blue in the kitchen, primary bathroom, boys' rooms, and basement; eucalyptus green in the kids' flex space; and accents of browns and rust throughout.

Linen cabinet storage sits at the other end of the vanity and the original stain glass window allows beautiful colorful light to come through.

Open kitchen with 2 islands. Thermador, SubZero and Wolf professional appliances. This kitchen opens into the great room and dining room. Easy to cook in and comfortable to eat in, this kitchen perfectly completes the great room. We even got a small TV squeezed in for the chef.

This dreamy master bath remodel in East Cobb offers generous space without going overboard in square footage. The homeowner chose to go with a large double vanity with a custom seated space as well as a nice shower with custom features and decided to forgo the typical big soaking tub.
The vanity area shown in the photos has plenty of storage within the wall cabinets and the large drawers below.
The countertop is Cedar Brown slab marble with undermount sinks. The brushed nickel metal details were done to work with the theme through out the home. The floor is a 12x24 honed Crema Marfil.
The stunning crystal chandelier draws the eye up and adds to the simplistic glamour of the bath.
The shower was done with an elegant combination of tumbled and polished Crema Marfil, two rows of Emperador Light inlay and Mirage Glass Tiles, Flower Series, Polished.

Perched on a forested hillside above Missoula, the Pattee Canyon Residence provides a series of bright, light filled spaces for a young family of six. Set into the hillside, the home appears humble from the street while opening up to panoramic views towards the valley. The family frequently puts on large gatherings for friends of all ages; thus, multiple “eddy out” spaces were created throughout the home for more intimate chats.
Exposed steel structural ribs and generous glazing in the great room create a rhythm and draw one’s gaze to the folding horizon. Smaller windows on the lower level frame intimate portraits of nature. Cedar siding and dark shingle roofing help the home blend in with its piney surroundings. Inside, rough sawn cabinetry and nature inspired tile provide a textural balance with the bright white spaces and contemporary fixtures.

While keeping the exterior intact, this 815 square foot freestanding, Edwardian home was gutted and re-framed by Michael Merrill Design Studio to accommodate a clean, crisp, ultramodern design. Small and compact, the new layout widened the existing gallery while also making the residence's only closet more efficient and accessible. Barn doors help to accentuate the height of the residence's ceiling. The bathroom's entry was moved from the kitchen to the gallery. The details help to make the bathroom, which is just over 50 square feet, feel quite spacious. Lastly, custom cabinetry in the chef's kitchen maximizes storage while providing a clean, contemporary feeling. (2006-2008)

The homeowners of this California Cottage wanted a beach vibe in their 1700 sq. ft. home. They wanted to make the most of their spaces by widening doorways, adding wood floors throughout the house, and adding a skylight. The result is cozy, casual California living at its best with frequent family dinners and celebrations with friends.

This view is from the range, we just love the creativity on this wall. Our clients wanted an island, but this galley kitchen just could not squeeze it in, so we created a portable island, that fits perfectly up against the fixed cabinets. Behind it is a custom panel with an inset for the TV and a magnetic board below it. To the right you can see the dining space is more open and easily accessible. The island is on lockable casters, so it can sit in place, or be rolled into the kitchen, closer to the range and sink and locked in place. We sized it so traffic flow is still good, even if it is pulled away from the wall.

This small condo kitchen needed to function better for a growing family. It started cramped -- for some reason the original builder squeezed a large double wall oven into this tiny space -- with a low ceiling and hanging cabinets dividing the dining area from the work space. We raised the ceiling, made use of a skylight and opened out the space. We used every square inch of storage -- corner swing-out shelves, roll-out shelves accessed from the dining side, and tray cabinet tucked in next to the dishwasher. Now the young family can comfortably grow into their home.

This bright Santa Monica ADU features a cheerful palette with a bold blue tile backsplash, warm oak accents, and clean white cabinetry, creating a welcoming retreat in a compact footprint. Vaulted ceilings, natural light, and efficient built-in storage make the space feel open and airy, while a cozy sitting area and functional kitchenette offer comfort and style for guests or extended stays.
