Cozy and Colorful Beach House Remodel!
When you think funky little house by the beach – images like what you are about to see may not be what you would have anticipated. This furnishings project aimed to capture a colorful, fun, active space for a family who wanted to feel at home .Thus, creating casual and comfortable but not boring in the least. A little traveled, a lot of texture, and not much clutter!
From the start, the space was not much to write home about!
The common living areas were boxy with lower ceilings. Quirky ins and outs needed to be optimized. Overall, this project was a prime opportunity for us to really dig in. From treating each room top to bottom and finding the client’s mojo when it came to wallcoverings. Selecting funky lighting and the right mix and match of bold colors and more natural, organic textures.
We came in too late to get involved with the kitchen but helped the client with a few little accents and color choices. Thus, acting as a jumping off point for the large dining space featuring a beautiful (and resilient!) wooden trestle table. We created a mix of seating that offers a little funk, and the fun additional cabinet storage to each end which offered a hideaway. We loved that this vista had such opportunity for great lighting and art, also!
A Colorful, Cozy Living Room
We knew we needed a cozy, lower profile seating area but also some sort of great reading nook by the fireplace. With the large windows and the main entry just off this space, a traffic pattern was delianted that helped guide decisions with the furniture. A funky, nubbier woven fabric on the sectional that hinted towards mid-century modern. The irregular shaped, petrified wood coffee table. The bold statement and colors carried through in the wallcovering and area rug. Jumping to the fireplace area where you can lounge or read with those gorgeous cognac leather recliners. This space needed to feel separate and the same all at once. The balance of scale and colors really helped achieve this!
Can’t forget the bedrooms!
Of course we can’t get by without mentioning a little bedroom love, either.
In the master the overall designs dictated by a bold, saturated woven wood cloth on the headboard wall. We love the mix of color and pattern in here. The bold, sexier mood is 100% a byproduct of the level of rich colors and unusual combinations. Those bold hand-glazed ceramic lamps against those strict geo-pattern bed pillows – so good!
Our sweet tween bedroom that should grow with her for a good, long time. All in all, filled with original art and layered in a softer palette. There was a lot of matching in here at first, but once we convinced her to trust us she started to understand why adding in the unexpected hit of bright coral and spring green made everything sing!

What do you think about @sherwinwilliams September color of the month? It is called Novel Lilac ? . This brilliant shade of purple is an expression of happiness. It bursts with optimism and personality. If you are looking for a refreshing way to end this year, and start anew, start with lilac!

Custom Outdoor Kitchen Backsplash Detail
A closer look at one of our custom outdoor kitchen builds. This mosaic tile backsplash adds character while standing up to heat, moisture, and everyday use. Every material choice is intentional, from the tile pattern to the concrete countertop edge.
Pro Tip: Outdoor kitchens should always be designed with drainage, ventilation, and material expansion in mind. Cutting corners here leads to costly repairs later.

This bungalow was sitting on the market, vacant. The owners had it virtually staged but never realized the furniture in the staged photos was too big for the space. Many potential buyers had trouble visualizing their furniture in this small home.
We came in and brought all the furniture and accessories and it sold immediately. Sometimes when you see a property for sale online and it is virtually staged, the client might not realize it and expects to see the furniture in the home when they visit. When they don't, they start to question the actual size of the property.
We want to create a vibe when you walk in the door. It has to start from the moment you walk in and continue throughout at least the first floor.
If you are thinking about listing your home, give us a call. We own all the furniture you see and have our own movers.

And while the over-the-fridge wine storage is a very clever feature, they also did not anticipate how tricky it would be to incorporate into the layout. “We didn’t want to spend a lot on it, and didn’t want to totally custom fabricate something. If our custom cabinetry/woodworking skills had been greater it probably would have been a piece of cake to fabricate and install. But finding an insert that worked without being prohibitively expensive was a problem,” she notes. After searching a variety of sites she finally found the unfinished wine rack on Amazon and were able to easily customize it.
Melissa concludes with some advice for other IKEA remodelers.
“Have a plan laid out before you start assembling and installing cabinets. We were able to inventory everything and group by cabinet thanks to the detailed parts list provided by IKD. Without that, the installation easily would have taken twice as long.”
She also recommends reading the tips and instructions IKEA provides before you start.
She concludes: “Lastly, spending time thinking about the order we would do things helped keep us organized and efficient.”

KitchenLab Interiors’ first, entirely new construction project in collaboration with GTH architects who designed the residence. KLI was responsible for all interior finishes, fixtures, furnishings, and design including the stairs, casework, interior doors, moldings and millwork. KLI also worked with the client on selecting the roof, exterior stucco and paint colors, stone, windows, and doors. The homeowners had purchased the existing home on a lakefront lot of the Valley Lo community in Glenview, thinking that it would be a gut renovation, but when they discovered a host of issues including mold, they decided to tear it down and start from scratch. The minute you look out the living room windows, you feel as though you're on a lakeside vacation in Wisconsin or Michigan. We wanted to help the homeowners achieve this feeling throughout the house - merging the causal vibe of a vacation home with the elegance desired for a primary residence. This project is unique and personal in many ways - Rebekah and the homeowner, Lorie, had grown up together in a small suburb of Columbus, Ohio. Lorie had been Rebekah's babysitter and was like an older sister growing up. They were both heavily influenced by the style of the late 70's and early 80's boho/hippy meets disco and 80's glam, and both credit their moms for an early interest in anything related to art, design, and style. One of the biggest challenges of doing a new construction project is that it takes so much longer to plan and execute and by the time tile and lighting is installed, you might be bored by the selections of feel like you've seen them everywhere already. “I really tried to pull myself, our team and the client away from the echo-chamber of Pinterest and Instagram. We fell in love with counter stools 3 years ago that I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on, thank god, because then they started showing up literally everywhere", Rebekah recalls. Lots of one of a kind vintage rugs and furnishings make the home feel less brand-spanking new. The best projects come from a team slightly outside their comfort zone. One of the funniest things Lorie says to Rebekah, "I gave you everything you wanted", which is pretty hilarious coming from a client to a designer.

Imagine going to visit friends or family and this is where you get to lay your head down at the end of the day! This room had great potential with an existing wall colour and custom cabinet unit that these clients loved. Often people think to get a fresh new look you need to start from scratch, however that is not the case. We upcycled the existing custom cabinet by painting it with a warm white chalk paint AND we think it turned out lovely! For this space we added a single bed with a rattan petal shaped headboard giving this room a whimsical feel. By angling the bed to the door, we were able to create a welcoming environment. What makes this room stand out the most is the unexpected hanging wall rug. Its vibrant colours and subtle pattern are the perfect backdrop for this small space. Hints of brushed gold, small accents and vibrant accent cushions complete this look, making for a quaint guest retreat your guests won’t want to leave.

One can say that the redesign job on this Atlanta-area home was just what the doctor ordered, since physician Jim Linnane chose Cantoni designer Kohl Sudnikovich to help him re-imagine his 50s ranch-style residence.
Online browsing, and a fondness for modern design, led the medical professional into our Georgia store/" title="Cantoni Modern Furniture Stores" class="crosslinking">showroom after purchasing the 50s-built home in early 2011. Since then, walls were torn down, the kitchen got a facelift, a lone loft morphed in to a music room, and the fireplace got haute while the pool became cool.
As always, step one of the design process began with Kohl visiting the home to measure and scale-out floor plans. Next, ideas were tossed around and the client fell in love with the Mondrian sectional, in red. “Jim’s selection set the color scheme for the home’s living areas,” explains Kohl, “and he loves the punchy accents we added with art, both inside and out.”
“Kohl worked closely with me, from start to finish, and guided me through the entire process,” explains Jim. “He helped me find a great contractor, and I’m particularly fond of the plan he conceived to replace the dated fireplace with a more contemporary linear gas box set in striated limestone.”
Adds Kohl, “I love how we opened the loft and staircase walls by replacing them with metal and cable railings, and how we created a sitting area (in what was the dining room) to open to the living room we enhanced with mirrors.”
A creative fix, like re-facing the cabinets, drawers and door panels in the kitchen, illustrates how something simple (and not too pricey) can make a big impact.
The project, on a whole, is also a good example of how our full-service design studio and talented staff can help re-imagine and optimize your living space while working within your budget.
“Meeting and working with Kohl was such a great experience,” says Jim, in closing. “He is so talented. He came up with great design ideas to completely change the look of my home’s interior, and I think the results are amazing.” Guess what, Jim? We think the results of your collaboration with Kohl are pretty amazing, too.
