Like many of our clients, when we met this homeowner, she was unsure how long she'd be staying in this house. Stay or sell, she knew she wanted to update the kitchen and bath for herself, and needed to for resale; and she knew she needed SYI to handle the whole remodel, conception to construction oversight. So, SYI designed to her taste - a clean if traditional look - but with an eye to creating spaces that would have a general appeal for potential buyers. The kitchen is neutral and clean, a good functional layout that anyone would appreciate. But the client wanted warmth and color; so the wood is honey-toned, the countertops a warm gray, the island base sage green, and the walls a very subtle yellow. However long this client stays, the house feels like her home.

Note that the large, mounded accent grass in the previous photo is California native Deer Grass, not an arson grass (Feather, Fountain or Pampas Grass). While they have similar aesthetics, their performance is wildly different. Arson Grasses readily ignite and will escape gardens to increase the fire danger in neighboring wild spaces. While the golden wands of seed heads seen here may appear dry, they launch from a dense, hydrated mound of greenery during the rainy season, whereas arson grasses themselves will dry in summer heat. The homeowners of this beautiful Needham home approached our team with the goal of creating an inviting and functional outdoor living space for their young family. After many discussions to determine the exact features that would make this landscape complete, it was time to hit the drawing board. Taking this yard from a blank slate, it was necessary to craft a design with distinct and useful spaces. A lush lawn for the kids to kick around the soccer ball was a must, a toasty gas fire pit surrounded by a large patio for lounging with friends and family was also top of the list for the homeowners. Finally, a grill island for some proper grilling was a necessary and seamless extension of the home.

Warm walnut cabinetry, soft mosaic tile, and expansive windows bring a calm, natural feel to this kitchen. Clean lines and polished chrome fixtures keep the space feeling timeless, functional, and light-filled.
