Designed by the homeowners themselves, this striking staircase rises through multiple levels with architectural precision. Dark-toned square balusters and newels create bold contrast against crisp white risers, while horizontal stainless steel rods maintain visual lightness.
The brilliance lies in the interplay of angles, levels, textures, and natural light. Strategic design choices transform the staircase into more than a connector. It carves out cozy sunny nooks and creates focal points throughout the open floor plan, proving that thoughtful geometry can shape how a home feels and functions.

This home prized itself on unique architecture, with sharp angles and interesting geometric shapes incorporated throughout the design. We wanted to intermix this style in a softer fashion, while also maintaining functionality in the kitchen and bathrooms that were to be remodeled. The refreshed spaces now exude a highly contemporary allure, featuring integrated hardware, rich wood tones, and intriguing asymmetrical cabinetry, all anchored by a captivating silver roots marble.
In the bathrooms, integrated slab sinks took the spotlight, while the powder room countertop radiated a subtle glow. To address previous storage challenges, a full-height cabinet was introduced in the hall bath, optimizing space. Additional storage solutions were seamlessly integrated into the primary closet, adjacent to the primary bath. Despite the dark wood cabinetry, strategic lighting choices and lighter finishes were employed to enhance the perceived spaciousness of the rooms.

The bones of this 1908 Glen Park home had been compromised by years and years of awkward remodels. The front door led directly to the private bedroom level, while the public gathering spaces were one-level down, with the main staircase nearly dropping you into the existing kitchen. Potentially spectacular views of an existing mature redwood tree and broad city views beyond were entirely ignored and inaccessible.
We first unraveled the knot of the plan with a new split-level entryway and connecting stair. We then opened up the rear of the home to the views, using the huge backyard conifer as design inspiration for a perforated steel guardrail connecting the new interior and exterior space seamlessly. A lower expansion connects the home to the yard and alleyway garage entry.
The Pinales House is indicative of the scale of remodel many young families can consider; a scale at which strategic design choices are key to discovering the unrealized potential of the home and site.

In this remodel, the kitchen underwent a remarkable transformation, evolving from a cramped,
uninspiring space into an elevated culinary haven. Through strategic design choices and
meticulous attention to detail, the once small and cold kitchen blossomed into a spacious focal
point and inviting gathering spot. Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, adorned with rich maple-stained
wood and accented by gleaming gold hardware, instantly elevated the aesthetic and functionality
of the space. The addition of brand-new appliances further enhanced the kitchen's efficiency and
modern appeal. Removing the wrap-around barstool counter proved to be a pivotal decision, as it
opened up the area, fostering a seamless flow and sense of spaciousness. Adjacent to the kitchen,
a dining room emerged, offering a convenient and inviting space for family meals and
entertaining. To preserve the kitchen's warmth and individuality, vibrant green abstract tiles were
meticulously chosen to line the backsplash, infusing the space with personality and charm. Each
element of the renovation was thoughtfully curated to ensure a harmonious blend of style,
functionality, and comfort, resulting in a kitchen that not only meets but exceeds the needs and
expectations of its inhabitants.

This pull and replace West Linn kitchen remodel focused on finding the right balance of aesthetic, function, and budget. New cabinets and countertops bring a fresh look to the space, but through strategic design choices we were able to keep the budget in line with the client's goals.
