Our designers teamed up to create an outdoor living space for the annual Pasadena Showcase House of Design home. Our focus was to create an outdoor living space that best utilized the area transitioning to the pool, while maintaining a water-wise/drought tolerant landscape. We incorporated our hand cast succulent water table, a pondless stream, synthetic turf, a fully paved patio with our famous Belgard paving stones, high-end outdoor furniture, a custom pergola and even a dry creek bed to tie everything together.

The homeowner wanted a lush Rocky Mountain landscape and to disguise the large backyard hillside excavation that during construction of the house. Utilizing numerous on-site boulders, creating a 75' long stream, and planting hundreds of trees, shrubs, and perennials filled out the backyard slope and enclosed the space with interesting colors, textures, and forms. In this project we removed an old, non-functioning and overgrown koi pond and the surrounding landscape. We dug a new, larger pond (20' x 30' x 2.5' deep) with deep winding stream (20' long). We added two waterfalls, two skimmer filters, low-maintenance pumps, aeration, and algae control unit. This project showcases what can be done with a medium-large space in your backyard, for it includes ample areas for sitting and relaxing, and even incorporates a walking path around the pond and through the stream!
