A busy family moves to a new home stuck in the 90's in metro Boston and requests a full refresh and renovation. Lots of family friendly materials and finishes are used. Some areas feel more modern, others have more of a transitional flair. Elegance is not impossible in a family home, as this project illustrates. Spaces are designed and used for adults and kids. For example the family room doubles as a kids craft room, but also houses a piano and guitars, a library and a sitting area for parents to hang out with their children. The living room is family friendly with a stain resistant sectional sofa, large TV screen but also houses refined decor, a wet bar, and sophisticated seating. The entry foyer offers bins to throw shoes in, and the dining room has an indoor outdoor rug that can be hosed down as needed! The master bedroom is a romantic, transitional space. When I met this 4 year old little girl: who was my newly acquainted client; she had on silver spandex tights, a cheetah headband: and was prancing all over her mom’s neat living room… as I was designing her room I had the song “wild thing you make my heart sing” : by The Troggs; stuck in my head. 1929, Craftsman Bungalow in South Mission Hills, San Diego. This house is definitely not stuck in the past. The home owner wanted a modern, hip, Zen vibe. The outside use to be “Barney” purple with little to no landscaping. The inside was a jumble of do–it-yourself “improvements ” over the last 80 years by different homeowners. Today, this 1,100 square foot house is fresh! It has lots of low maintenance and cost effective additions. It has been remodeled with hardwood floors, new windows, casings, doors, tile, LED lighting, Trex decking, water efficient landscaping, faux grass, an art glass installation in the backyard and a home gym. Plus, a creative mix of high and low end furnishings throughout.

Our goal for this Santa Monica condo was to remodel 2800sf. The bathroom features custom white cabinets, the floor continues into the shower and we added a beautiful claw foot tub. The kitchen features dark hardwood flooring, decorative tile backsplash, and stainless steel appliances. This coastal home turned out beautifully and we stuck to this style throughout the entire home.

This bathroom was stuck in the 1960's and has totally been updated from plumbing to tile and more.....We included a dual vanity that gives the home owner so much more storage space, wall mount bath fixtures, and an industrial light fixture which completes the space. A walk in shower with bench, Wood Look Tile, give this industrial space an edge, and timeless feel.

After 11 years in the home being stuck inside due to quarantine, we finally had enough of looking at a fireplace that the wife and I loathed. So she started off saying, why don't we try white-washing the brick, and that's when it all began... And with the help of a very good friend and me channeling my inner Italian skills passed down from my ancestors, lol, needless to say the wife and I couldn't be happier with how this project turned out and just in time for the Holidays too... So for about $1,500 in total cost of materials, we have a home centerpiece now worth over $10,000 plus...

The awning windows in the kitchen blend the inside with the outside; a welcome feature where it sits in Hawaii. An awning/pass-through kitchen window leads out to an attached outdoor mango wood bar with seating on the deck. This tropical modern coastal Tiny Home is built on a trailer and is 8x24x14 feet. The blue exterior paint color is called cabana blue. The large circular window is quite the statement focal point for this how adding a ton of curb appeal. The round window is actually two round half-moon windows stuck together to form a circle. There is an indoor bar between the two windows to make the space more interactive and useful- important in a tiny home. There is also another interactive pass-through bar window on the deck leading to the kitchen making it essentially a wet bar. This window is mirrored with a second on the other side of the kitchen and the are actually repurposed french doors turned sideways. Even the front door is glass allowing for the maximum amount of light to brighten up this tiny home and make it feel spacious and open. This tiny home features a unique architectural design with curved ceiling beams and roofing, high vaulted ceilings, a tiled in shower with a skylight that points out over the tongue of the trailer saving space in the bathroom, and of course, the large bump-out circle window and awning window that provides dining spaces.

One of the biggest obstacles was accessing the space, so we had to roll everything around on flat ground and lift up with a spider crane. This meant we worked closely alongside the builders onsite to tackle any hurdles.

As you can see, drapery fabric made a huge difference in warming up the space. The sofa was replaced with a more neutral color since the room was small and the previous red sofa stuck out like a sore thumb.
