Working with Barbara and her team at Elza B Design has been a joy from beginning to end. We recently renovated and redecorated our twenty-year-old home. When we originally built, our children were in elementary school. Now they are all adults; we have a grandchild; and our house needs have changed as we enjoy frequent visits from our growing family. Barbara expertly helped me to execute the vision I had for the house. She did not impose any particular style upon us. Rather, she listened, looked closely at what we already had that we loved, and then collaboratively helped me to pull together a cohesive design that is reflective of our family’s tastes and personality. Barbara’s background in fine art was immensely helpful as we incorporated rich, saturated color throughout the house, balancing rooms with strong colors and vibrant wallpaper patterns with simple, understated spaces. Each room beautifully flows into the next. The Elza B team brought wonderful resources to the table, from furniture manufacturers, lighting sources, to wallpaper and fabric selections. Her team’s strong relationships with vendors helped us to get the project done beautifully, efficiently, and as cost effectively as possible. I wholeheartedly recommend Elza B Design to anyone who is contemplating a home renovation or design update project. Barbara, Dominique and Amy are creative, talented design professionals, who are all wonderful people to work with – joyful, fun, patient, and thoughtful. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them.

This review is to enthusiastically recommend Elza B. Design — Barbara Hirsch is the owner and designer who ran our project — based on our first-rate experience working with them on our new apartment. What did we do? We downsized from a condominium that we sold to move to a space about half the size we used to have. Logistically it was complex but more importantly we knew that our use of space would change dramatically. We had to give up some significant flexibility. We wanted our new home to be interesting, comfortable and visually consistent with the way we live. We will be spending a lot of time there and it needs to be stimulating and yet homely. Of course, we had no idea how to actually achieve all that! We found Barbara through the recommendation of a friend of a friend. Her process worked well for us. But having never done this, we had some concerns. What use were Mood boards for! Why send her pictures of things or colors we liked and things we did not! How could we trust the process? This was not comfortable as it was outside our experience. But it WORKED. We needed to be patient ! She is a professional and knew exactly how to get us there where we wanted to be. Net-net: we are super happy with where we have arrived. The new space is a delight to inhabit. It works really well for us. We simply like being there. Many thanks to Elza B. Design for all they did. Barbara and crew did a fabulous job overhauling our second floor bathroom. It's both beautiful and functional. She oversaw the entire project and it was completed without any delays or surprise additional costs.

We hired Barbara initially for a full renovation of a 20 year old and very outdated master bathroom, bedroom and closet as well as our family room. We were very pleased with the end result. Barbara has a lovely aesthetic vision and convinced me on a few choices I would probably not have considered. The spaces were completely transformed into brighter, lighter and much more pleasing to live in rooms. We then added the dining room and formal living room for mostly cosmetic changes. Again the spaces without any structural work were lightened up and updated. As in any renovation, some problems cropped up. Barbara was very responsive and worked with vendors to rectify issues.

When we downsized and moved to our new home, my husband and I hired Barbara to furnish and decorate the open spaces, including the entry and living/dining area. We wanted to move away from the traditional style of our long-time family home to a more contemporary and lighter style. We are thrilled with the outcome – an inviting, elegant, yet comfortable and functional space. The project included choosing a color scheme and furniture layout and purchasing furniture, lighting, area rugs, and accessories. Barbara drew on her experience and wide array of resources and connections to find the perfect pieces for us, including a locally-crafted custom console and artwork from a regional painter. Barbara spent time up front to understand our vision. The execution of the design was stress-free. Barbara and her staff are professional, ethical, and well-organized. They hold suppliers to the same high standards. They handle any questions or concerns promptly and efficiently. We are very pleased with the outcome and the process. It was a pleasure to work with Barbara. We highly recommend Elza B. Design!

I hired Barbara from Elza B. Design to help me with converting a bedroom into a TV room. I found Barbara to be extremely personable and interested in my thoughts and ideas. Her process is thorough, and before beginning the design she wanted to get information about me, my lifestyle, my color and fabric preferences, everything. She came up with two different design options and I loved both of them. Barbara is honest and will share her opinion, and this is exactly what I wanted. Her ideas are practical and aesthetically pleasing. I chose to hire Elza B. for the design only, and am going to try and manage the project myself from there. That said, she is available for hire on an hourly basis in the event that I need more help with purchasing and other issues. That’s a real plus for me. I feel very fortunate that I found Barbara. She is easy to work with, warm, and knowledgeable. I know I’ll be calling her for future projects.

I hired Barbara Hirsch of Elza B. Design to re-design our family room which did not function for our family of 4 and was very outdated. Having no interior design experience of my own, and no time to learn, I relied entirely on Barbara to meet our goals of using the space in a way that was not only practical for the family, but also aesthetically pleasing. Barbara did a fantastic job. We changed the room in ways I hadn't even considered, including removing a wet bar that we had never used, adding built-in shelving to better utilize wall space, painting the wood paneling and trim, and wall mounting the TV. Today the room is a wonderful place for the family to hang out with an arts and crafts area for the kids and flexible seating area for the TV and fireplace areas. Barbara and her assistant Amy were great to work with. Both were highly accessible and responsive, and both listened when we had ideas or concerns. Barbara is very passionate about interior design and it shows in her work.

I so enjoyed working on this project for a young family of 4 : the space was transformed from A to Z with custom cabinetry, new paint and rethinking things like sound, light and TV placement. I loved how the client was open to reinventing the space to host both a sitting area and an arts and craft station. Her eagerness to introduce fun pops of color with fabric and rugs, as well as finish the space with art allowed for a really creative and seamless design. Thanks so much for this great review, my heart sings when clients are happy with the end result!

We chose Barbara to help with our basement project because of her design aesthetic and wonderful character. We had an L-shaped, partially finished basement with over 9-ft ceiling height that we hoped to use for entertaining. Barbara created the design, and we bid it out to a few contractors. She served as the consultant throughout the project. Barbara's design is both sophisticated and practical. She pays high attention to detail and excels at color coordination, effortlessly pulling together a coherent look. She listened to what we like/want and also let us know if she didn't think it would work well, which was exactly what we needed. We never felt we were forced to choose anything we didn't like. She was also responsive at helping us with any concerns or problems with the vendors. Overall, we enjoyed working with her and loved the end result. Our basement now feels elegant, eclectic, and fun at the same time-- thanks to Barbara and her team. We highly recommend her, especially to those who are busy and indecisive when it comes to design (like us!).

What a wonderful review: thanks SO much for taking the time to stop by and describe the quality of the design work in such detail. For this family, we designed a wet bar, wine storage, and 2 sitting areas for this fun project which the client topped off with a beautiful white ping pong table. I loved the style aesthetics of these clients, they were adventurous and practical and I had a lot of fun in particular coming up with interesting colors, furniture, art and tile. One of my favorite details is the Moroccan cement tile wall in the wet bar and the ping pong ball proof bulb cage safety covers on the pendants!
