Elegant freestanding desk dark wood floor study room photo in Nashville with gray walls

2014 ASID Legacy of Design 2nd Place award Contemporary Space. This study was built with a tall ceiling, so we had molding placed around the walls two thirds of the way up and selected a textural grasscloth for the lower portion in order to draw the eye down from the ceiling. Warm shades of taupe for the remaining part of the walls and ceiling make the room cozy and intimate. Another layer of texture was added with the geometric hand crafted hair on hide rug, and we selected contemporary but inviting furniture with custom fabrics, and a soft throw pillow. Perhaps the highlight of the room, we chose to use bookcases upholstered in a gray velvet and enhanced with nickel nail head trim. Custom artwork was sourced especially for the room to enhance the color palette and draw out the golden yellow in the desk chair fabric. Remodeling this Kahala home to accommodate a young, growing family. We’ve demolished 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and are replacing them with 3 new bedrooms, 2 new bathrooms, and a family room. Mom and Dad will enjoy their master suite getaway on a new 2nd story, with a master bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet. Separate of the additions above, the existing garage will be re-configured to free up the space the old driveway used, and new laundry room will be added off of the garage and kitchen – laundry rooms are always a great addition!

Juxtaposing the rustic beauty of an African safari with the electric pop of neon colors pulled this home together with amazing playfulness and free spiritedness. We took a modern interpretation of tribal patterns in the textiles and cultural, hand-crafted accessories, then added the client’s favorite colors, turquoise and lime, to lend a relaxed vibe throughout, perfect for their teenage children to feel right at home.
