Nestled within the bustling heart of Manhattan's Seaport District, my latest project unfolded in the form of a kid's bedroom, reflecting both a playful spirit and thoughtful practicality. The client's love for travel and a shared vision for a space that grows with their child guided the creative process, transforming the room into a haven of warmth, comfort, and character.
The journey began with the selection of a twin-size daybed in off-white, a transitional piece that resonates with the room's flexibility. Perfect for lounging or sleepovers, this piece stands ready to evolve into a bed when the time is right. The side table, equipped with a handy charging port, offers the dual function of storage now and a nightstand later, reflecting the room's readiness to adapt to its occupant's changing needs.
Adding to the room's multifunctionality, the chosen console table can either grace the space in simplicity or rotate into an L-shaped desk. From craft time to study hours, it's a piece that speaks to the creativity and growth of the child. Paired with a velvet-upholstered chair, a fashionable yet unobtrusive addition, it brings a contrasting pop of color to balance the room's light palette.
The leather lounge chair and globe pouf introduce a casual feel, enhancing the room's welcoming ambiance. Inspired by the family's months-long travel experience, the global-themed pouf stands as a tangible reminder of adventures shared and the world waiting to be explored.
With the final touch of a well-positioned bookcase at the foot of the daybed sofa, organization and accessibility became part of the room's charm. The careful addition of lighting with gold, white, and rattan elements, along with a uniquely textured blue rug, brings the design together in a harmonious blend of style and personality.
This project, situated in one of New York's most vibrant neighborhoods, was more than just a room transformation; it was a labor of love. Building a space that can effortlessly transition with the child's growth, filled with memories and inspiration from family experiences, was a challenge embraced with enthusiasm. Their child's bedroom is not merely a room; it's a carefully curated environment where dreams take flight, comfort reigns, and the future holds endless possibilities.

This LED strip light and steam outlet is at the base of the shower enclosure. This client couple was serious about their master shower. They researched and had professionally designed a 4x6' shower, outfitted with an all-Kohler system of 3 traditional heads, 6 body heads, a handheld spray and an 18" rain shower head, plus a steam infusion system and audio—all fully monitored and controlled from the wall-mounted touch pad. The top-of-the-line Kohler toilet senses someone approaching and opens itself. It has a heated seat, built-in bidet, hidden tank, and remote control. The advanced-design LaGrand electrical switches and outlets are flexible, innovative, and beautiful. The heated floor keeps feet comfy. A special, high-capacity water line supplies 3 on-demand natural gas water heaters to feed the shower system. We also refinished the wooden floors in the master bedroom, and replaced the traditional wooden stair railings with sleek, stainless steel cable railings. The remodeled laundry room includes a dog food prep station, complete with mini dishwasher.

The homeowner added a dedicated theater room while finishing off their basement. The system includes a 110” screen, 4K projector and Dolby Atmos surround sound. The front speakers are concealed in the proscenium surrounding the screen. The proscenium was designed, fabricated and installed by Media Rooms’ In-house Cabinet shop. The audio & video equipment is housed in a mechanical room behind the theater, however the bluray player is accessible through a window in the rear wall. All equipment, lights and shades are controllable via a single universal remote control. All equipment, seating and shades was supplied and installed by the Media Rooms’ Electronics department. In addition to the row of four recliner chairs, two single chairs are on casters to allow for great flexibility in the seating arrangements. Battery powered Lutron window shades allow the room to be darkened for daytime watching.

In today's modern family home, the utility/laundry room has become the new must have space. This room must be functionally organized and well appointed.
The go-to storage spot for life's messiest and untidiest bits.
It had become the drop zone for coats, shoes, laundry, and the list went on........ With that being said, getting the storage solutions right was essential.
Wall cabinets, open shelves, hooks and under-seat storage all combine to create flexible, useful spaces for an array of everyday items. The chevron tiles add a beautiful statement behind the custom drying rack.

Working with a local vendor to supply the kitchen cabinets gave us complete control and the flexibility to work in custom sized boxes verses industry standards. Access to the shop also produced perfect colors and finishes.

This office inspires productivity in style with a well-designed space and ample room to get the job done.
• Lago® Roman Walnut finish provides a natural and neutral backdrop.
• Aluminum frame doors with Satin glass inserts add a soft touch and conceal supplies.
• Ecoresin Thatch back panel and modesty panel create a seamless look.
• Adjustable shelving offers flexibility for changing needs.
• Slab drawer fronts lend a modern feel to the space.
• Brushed aluminum decorative hardware adds polish.

This room was created to last several years, that's why the "bones" or the furniture can be adapted to a kid and later to a teen, by changing only the accessories.
The plaid on the wall was hand painted.
The furniture has a modern feel because of the straight lines and small squares that are repeated in the headrest as well as in the cornice and cabinet knobs.
Flexible design that can be adapted to the growing stages of a child should always be the goal for a kids' room.

We worked with a corporation and their out-of-town architect on this residential condominium construction in Washington D.C. The company uses the apartment for executive housing and meetings. Its goal was to create a flexible space to be used for both purposes. We renovated the kitchen, two bathrooms, and one bedroom. The central focus is the sleek new open kitchen, though we worked on the entire 1200 square foot apartment.
The client provided the architectural design for the kitchen and the rest of the apartment. The biggest layout changes were:
*Removing the walls of the existing kitchen to create a dramatic open kitchen that runs all the way to the window on one side and an island with a waterfall countertop on the other side.
*A layout that provided space for a large conference table
*Closing off one door of the bedroom and creating a larger opening from the living room side and installing pocket doors
These changes required extensive systems work throughout the apartment, including redoing all the ductwork, modifying the sprinkler system and relocating sprinkler heads to meet fire code. We didn’t run into any surprises with the systems because our team had investigated the structure in the pre-construction stage and cut holes in the drywall to locate the plumbing pipes, columns, and wiring. We had to turn and move the existing HVAC system so we could hide it in one of the kitchen cabinets.
We built the structure that anchors one end of the kitchen. It hides a refrigerator (with flush panel doors), electrical panel, and writing for the flat screen television. A soffit above the kitchen hides all the ductwork, and is fitted with recessed lights and LED cove lighting above.
The client supplied the kitchen cabinetry. The countertops are quartz by Caesarstone in Haze. We installed the flooring material on the base of one side of the island.
Backsplash. The dramatic backsplash is made of thin sheets of porcelain. The 5 mm thick material by Fiandre comes in 5-foot by 10-foot sheets that comes in a continuous pattern or can be book-matched. A fabricator measured the layout and cuts for the wall outlets, cut the material and installed it. Our team delivered three sheets of the material up the stairwell of the building. Though they created a template of the material out of wood to make sure it would fit, the actual material was more rigid and it took them a while to maneuver it.
The new wide opening at the end of the living room has pocket doors. We closed off the original hallway door to the bedroom.
