This elegant new stairway transformed the main entry of this residential remodel. The original adobe wall and wooden stair was completely removed and a self-supporting steel stair was put in its place. Transparency of the new system opened up the entire home and brought a modern touch into the once traditional architecture. The steel stair was framed with 6 inch channel and custom tread supports. The railing matched the industrial look with solid flat bar and half inch solid round bar. The treads were finished with a clear polyurethane to complement the raw steel finish of the stair. The shape seems simple enough but the way this is built required 48 different sides to line up nicely on the pedestal with floating mortise and tenon joinery to support it. All that on compound angles that are tapered. The top is connected and supported via steel c channels that are recessed into the table top. This has the added benefit of keeping the table top flat on over the large cantilever. A lot of math and planning but the end result was so amazing to see come together. And the space that it sat in was such a wonderful backdrop. We couldn't be happier with it. As with all of our pieces, this custom dining table was hand made in San Diego, CA.

Designed by Reynard Architectural Designs, the inviting breakfast bar features a warm, thick-cut butcher block countertop resting on a dark green painted base with subtle black metal support brackets. The channel-tufted, burgundy leather bar stools add a pop of sophisticated color and comfortable seating, perfectly complementing the rustic contemporary aesthetic of the home.

This house in the high Mesa desert of Southwestern Utah is sustainable. It is built with non-combustible fire-resistant materials of steel, concrete, copper and stucco. Water-recapturing, passive heating and passive cooling are used for a low impact on the environment and energy efficiency. Large overhanging eaves provide essential shade in the summer, solid concrete floors release the heat absorbed from the low winter sun. A steel structure allows for deep cantilevered balconies and eaves, which also supports heavy snowfall in winter. The standing seam copper roofing freely allows expansion and contraction from the daily temperature swings. The eaves are covered in copper panels and an integrated copper gutter. The balcony railing made of steel channels and wire was also fabricated by Patrice.
