Living in the forest is about roaming around, hunting – about survival. It’s not actually that dramatic any more as Oscar Niemeyer’s “Brasilia” shows. This private villa with a kitchen area designed on LEICHT kitchen planning presents Brazil’s jungle capital in miniature: in a swooshing convex roof arch, individual areas set off from each other with glass and natural wood, with sprawling seating terraces, portholes, floor-to-ceiling windows, in brief: visually, the surrounding forest pervades from all sides. As beautiful and exciting as that might be, at the heart of the building, the kitchen area presents itself as a straightforward, down-to-earth sanctuary that very classically conveys the original aspect of a “cooking zone” as a modern kitchen to residents and guests.

The natural stone steps curve around the deck supports to bring you to the lower patio. Along the path are Carolina Allspice, Japanese Kierra and a Dogwood. Using the native plants such as the Allspice and Dogwood will help the ecology of the micro-climate and also ensure that the plants are hardy enough to survive our strange weather patterns. We had originally planted 3 Carolina Allspice that had not yet come out of dormancy. We were skeptical of it's ability to transplant well. They were very slow to emerge and one didn't make it. So we swapped them out with new shrubs from a local nursery that caters to home gardeners and landscapers alike. They were beautiful and blooming! The newly transplanted ones bloomed for much longer than anticipated. The customer was much happier with the result.

Our designers created this custom bar complete with Sierra Vista tile and a herringbone backslash. The solid grey quartz counter tops provide a smooth transition from the bar to the cabinets. We love the mixture of texture in this basement entertaining area. Photo Credit: Chris Whonsetler

A historic Palo Alto home revitalized with contemporary stylings and a unique floorplan flow. The client loved the location, but was not in love with the existing architecture. So, as architect Joseph Bellomo said, “We took a historical home and gave it a heart attack.” The home did survive the renovation and addition done in a very contemporary style. The front facade was restored, and the interior was completely changed and modernized with sleek base and trim lines, and an interior smooth plaster wall system. The additions for this project included a pool house, studio and offices include plaster, zinc and glass exterior finishes, and smooth plaster walls with epoxy and maple floors. The pool which is the centerpiece of the courtyard has an infinity edge and butts up to the lower floor top-to-bottom window.

This TV Room just off the kitchen was not very comfortable and the heavy looking leather sofa wasn't surviving the client's two big exuberant labs. We brightened and made the room cozier with a new sectional in a practically indestructible Crypton chenille fabric. We also clad the inset TV with the same stone that appears in the great room. The effect gives the impression of a fireplace.

This stunning acreage located just out side of Cochrane is home to a lovely family with a busy lifestyle. For these great folks, pets are there children so they were taxed with the problem of finding a floor that could help mask shedding, traffic & paw prints but that would be touch enough to survive their energetic pups! The hardwood we removed was unable to rise to the challenge but this stunning AC4 commercially rated laminate was perfect! This product hit all the priority points with the added value of being a budget pleaser.
