Meet Nina,the DIY decorating enthusiast behind the blog Swanky Swell. Nina had been eying our Birch Forest Stencil because it reminded her of her favorite nature inspired wallpaper. She had decided to make over her guest bedroom and while she loved the look of wallpaper, the price was way outside her decorating budget. Our Birch Forest Stencil was the perfect solution. She painted the forest pattern on an accent wall behind the bed in Martha Stewart's Tiger Eye. To complete the look of the room, she purchased a headboard from Target and scored a vintage end table on Craigslist that she painted Kelly Green. It's the perfect swanky guest bedroom. Somehow we doubt her guests will want to leave!

Home to the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, the Sagamore Hill National Historic Site is undergoing a three-year, $7.2 million rehabilitation project, including upgrades to the mechanical and electrical systems and lighting, as well as restoration of historic windows, doors, siding and porches to historic preservation standards. Often referred to as the “Summer White House,” where President Roosevelt would host VIPs from the U.S. and the world during his presidency, the Queen Anne-style home has undergone a patchwork of renovation projects over the years. The current rehabilitation is aimed at avoiding ongoing smaller scale site work in the future. For replacement of the impressive wraparound porch, the National Park Service (NPS) selected Accoya wood, a Cradle to Cradle-certified material that is durable and stable, and is guaranteed against rot and decay for 50 years in exterior use. In addition, Accoya does not shrink or swell, making it an ideal material for a variety of exterior applications. “In caring for such an important property, we needed to ensure that we used the highest quality, environmentally friendly products that were sympathetic to the environment,” said Susan Sarna, museum curator for the NPS. “In addition, given the negative impact that renovation works have on visitor experience, we wanted to use a product that would allow us to reduce ongoing maintenance at the site.” Building Type: National Historic Site – Residential Client: U.S. National Park Service

This Denver Area Centennial home desperately needed new siding. The previous siding was composite wood that was swelling and peeling. We installed James Hardie ColorPlus siding and trim. We also painted the soffits and fascia with Sherwin Williams Duration exterior paint to match. The homeowner selected Aged Pewter for the siding, and Arctic White for the trim, soffits, and fascia. Continuing the theme of the lakefront, we wanted this powder bathroom to have a pop for guests. We did Serena and Lily wallpaper and a two-tone cabinet and a decorative light fixture from Shades of Light in their Sea Swell Collection with swirled clear shade to compliment the wallpaper.

After their brand new construction was completed, this family had a beautiful and comfortable home that truly fit their needs. However, this new construction lacked an outdoor living space, which left the backyard feeling stark and bare. With this blank slate, we were able to create a relaxing environment for this family to enjoy. Faced with the challenge of using every square-inch of this small space, Native Edge was able to design a landscape that left this family worry-free. We incorporated a low maintenance composite decking system, modern raised metal planters, and a bubbling urn water feature to tie this peaceful landscape together. The poor drainage of the lot gave us the opportunity to create a striking cat walk and drainage feature, which left ample room for their vegetable and herb garden hobby. There is even a nook for the family dog to enjoy!

This Denver Area home had composite wood siding that had been damaged by hail and was beginning to swell and rot. We installed James Hardie ColorPlus HardiePlank lap siding in Monterey Taupe, staggered edge HardieShingle shake siding in Evening Blue, and Arctic White HardieTrim. The soffits and fascia are also Arctic White, which the porch ceiling is Monterey Taupe.

This Denver home in Stapleton needed a partial siding replacement despite having been built about 9 years ago. The home was built with low-grade composite siding that was swelling and cracking severely. We only installed new siding on the left and rear elevations of the home leaving the rest of the siding intact. We installed James Hardie Hardie siding and trim. Then we painted a contemporary color scheme with Sherwin-Williams Duration exterior paint on the entire house to match. We will assess the damage and work with our homeowners to maximize on the siding repair and replacement. The transformation is stunning. Even for a newer community, this home’s exterior stands out among the neighborhood.

We opened up the space between the original kitchen and dining room and made it into one space. We tucked the dining table closer to the exterior wall and incorporated bench seating to allow for a larger prep island for the clients. A new back window was incorporated to bring more natural light into the space and we accommodated the large appliances required by the client which included both a 36" fridge and a 18" subzero wine fridge.
