Inspiration for a timeless dining room remodel in New York

This french traditional home was inspired by two beautiful antique tapestry chairs whose muted colors were exactly the color palette we were looking for. These colors provided the backdrop for the entire house, where their busy, growing family could live comfortably in the style they loved.

My clients for this project wanted to erase from their newly purchased home the style choices of the previous owners. Eager to make their own impression, we decided to turn the dining room into more of a statement space with elegant wood paneling, a grand carved wooden dining table, and a sense that a feast was about to take place. I thought of it as Modern Medieval! The guest dining chairs are covered in a tapestry-like material of paisley and leopard while the host chairs, bigger and more luxuriously scaled, are covered in a soft olive green leather. Hanging above is a lighting fixture that recalls ancient round candelabras. Below is a rug in camel and gold with an organic pattern of branches and leaves. Wall sconces, a mirrored buffet with iron rings, and custom draperies finish the look. At night during dinner parties, the metallic gold ceiling reflects the chandelier and sconces, giving the room a glamorous, warm glow. Photo by Bernardo Grijalva

Inspiration for a coastal kitchen remodel in New York

Its modest size makes it the coziest area of the house, and because of that it is the couple's favorite wintertime spot. "It's so comfortable to just lay around in," Jennifer says. "You sit down and all of a sudden you're falling asleep." The Milo Baughman settee is currently Jennifer's favorite piece. A recent birthday gift from Raymond, Jennifer found the tufted leather sofa on Etsy and drove 10 hours across Pennsylvania to pick it up. This newly built Old Mission style home gave little in concessions in regards to historical accuracies. To create a usable space for the family, Obelisk Home provided finish work and furnishings but in needed to keep with the feeling of the home. The coffee tables bunched together allow flexibility and hard surfaces for the girls to play games on. New paint in historical sage, window treatments in crushed velvet with hand-forged rods, leather swivel chairs to allow “bird watching” and conversation, clean lined sofa, rug and classic carved chairs in a heavy tapestry to bring out the love of the American Indian style and tradition.
