The owners of this home came to us with a plan to build a new high-performance home that physically and aesthetically fit on an infill lot in an old well-established neighborhood in Bellingham. The Craftsman exterior detailing, Scandinavian exterior color palette, and timber details help it blend into the older neighborhood. At the same time the clean modern interior allowed their artistic details and displayed artwork take center stage. We started working with the owners and the design team in the later stages of design, sharing our expertise with high-performance building strategies, custom timber details, and construction cost planning. Our team then seamlessly rolled into the construction phase of the project, working with the owners and Michelle, the interior designer until the home was complete. The owners can hardly believe the way it all came together to create a bright, comfortable, and friendly space that highlights their applied details and favorite pieces of art. This project won in the 2013 Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh Housing Excellence Award for Best Urban Renewal Renovation Project. The glass bowl was made in the glass studio owned by the owner which is adjacent to the residence. The mirror is a repurposed window. The door is repurposed from a boarding house. George Mendel

We raised a few sections of front walk to bring it back up to its original level and to get the step back up to code. Your step should be between 6-7 ¾ inch to pass code. Job cost roughly 200 dollars.

Front of house view shows pivot entry door, metal spillway water feature, roof deck balcony and grand window into living room. Exterior panels are black Swiss Pearl cement board and "heavy dash" stucco finish.

Looking down through the floating glass staircase into the kitchen we see the low-voltage fixtures that light the island workspace below. The challenge of how to integrate task-lighting into the space without taking away from the beautiful structure and transparency of the staircase is solved using 12V cable which is strung along the support structure that runs the length of the stairway bridge. This cable energizes (5) MR16 FL40 lamps in fixtures which directly downlight the counter to 52FC without glare, spill, or lamp backsplash.
