“Compelling.” That’s how one of our judges characterized this stair, which manages to embody both reassuring solidity and airy weightlessness. Architect Mahdad Saniee specified beefy maple treads—each laminated from two boards, to resist twisting and cupping—and supported them at the wall with hidden steel hangers. “We wanted to make them look like they are floating,” he says, “so they sit away from the wall by about half an inch.” The stainless steel rods that seem to pierce the treads’ opposite ends are, in fact, joined by threaded couplings hidden within the thickness of the wood. The result is an assembly whose stiffness underfoot defies expectation, Saniee says. “It feels very solid, much more solid than average stairs.” With the rods working in tension from above and compression below, “it’s very hard for those pieces of wood to move.” The interplay of wood and steel makes abstract reference to a Steinway concert grand, Saniee notes. “It’s taking elements of a piano and playing with them.” A gently curved soffit in the ceiling reinforces the visual rhyme. The jury admired the effect but was equally impressed with the technical acumen required to achieve it. “The rhythm established by the vertical rods sets up a rigorous discipline that works with the intricacies of stair dimensions,” observed one judge. “That’s really hard to do.”

This Italian pair of minimalist sofa / end tables are a statement of purist design where the simplicity becomes true elegance. The Water Wise project was developed as a demonstration garden near Alton Baker Park in Eugene Oregon. This garden exhibits different ways we can think about water and use resources responsibly. The project was initiated by the Eugene Water and Electric Board in partnership with the city of Eugene, Nearby Nature, Satre Associates and LandCurrent landscape architects. LandCurrent was responsible for the design work , with technical support from Satre. The demonstration garden features water wise innovations such as a rain garden, bio swales, and a water harvesting cistern. It also includes a drought tolerant planting palette and lawn species. LandCurrent proposed a rain sculpture that functions as a cistern overflow through the principle of communicating veins

THEME The main theme for this room is an active, physical and personalized experience for a growing boy. This was achieved with the use of bold colors, creative inclusion of personal favorites and the use of industrial materials. FOCUS The main focus of the room is the 12 foot long x 4 foot high elevated bed. The bed is the focal point of the room and leaves ample space for activity within the room beneath. A secondary focus of the room is the desk, positioned in a private corner of the room outfitted with custom lighting and suspended desktop designed to support growing technical needs and school assignments. STORAGE A large floor armoire was built at the far die of the room between the bed and wall.. The armoire was built with 8 separate storage units that are approximately 12”x24” by 8” deep. These enclosed storage spaces are convenient for anything a growing boy may need to put away and convenient enough to make cleaning up easy for him. The floor is built to support the chair and desk built into the far corner of the room. GROWTH The room was designed for active ages 8 to 18. There are three ways to enter the bed, climb the knotted rope, custom rock wall, or pipe monkey bars up the wall and along the ceiling. The ladder was included only for parents. While these are the intended ways to enter the bed, they are also a convenient safety system to prevent younger siblings from getting into his private things. SAFETY This room was designed for an older child but safety is still a critical element and every detail in the room was reviewed for safety. The raised bed includes extra long and higher side boards ensuring that any rolling in bed is kept safe. The decking was sanded and edges cleaned to prevent any potential splintering. Power outlets are covered using exterior industrial outlets for the switches and plugs, which also looks really cool.

A 1905 Beach home was reinvented as a light-filled, energy efficient modern home. Strictly modern, the new design respectfully explores building structures & materials found in the area to complement the neighbourhood while creating a modern original with unique sculptural aesthetics. Emphasis was also put on creating a technical configurations to support the wellbeing, as well as economical outcome, for maintaining & operating the building – to name a few: lots of natural light & cross ventilation; walls and roof with long-lasting cool metal paneling; breathable wall membranes; continuous insulation; HRV; smart technologies to control lighting, heating & cooling and to monitor energy consumption.

The Wall collection is characterized by project integration. The built-in wall cupboards protrude by 5 cm with a polished aluminium frame. The line consists of modules 40 cm bright available in 3 heights: 80, 120 and 160; each module can be installed both horizontally and vertically. The door can be customized with several finishes. Wall Mirror is an alternative of the standard module and is provided with rack with mirrored door, taps’ support and technical rack to be inspected.
