Inspiration for a coastal terra-cotta tile kitchen remodel in San Francisco

From the antique musket hanging over the fireplace to the design choices in their kitchen, our clients love the charm of a colonial aesthetic. We think the stunning tiger maple cabinets with beaded inset, black granite counters and glass fronted cabinet doors compliment their tastes wonderfully.

The new breakfast room as seen from the kitchen allows daylight views into the backyard which did not exist for the previous kitchen. Notice the terra cotta tile floors and the tray ceiling. The existing terrace is just outside the new French doors. The breakfast room is now a transitional dining space between the interior and exterior.

Bobbie found the vintage Turkish rug at auction, while the sideboard was inherited from Matthew's grandmother. With regard to the home's nearly pristine interior, there was not much work to be done. This pictures shows color choices so well. Cabinets are textured surface in a light bone color called Muratti 04 that seems to go with just about everything. The glass sheet backsplash is painted in rich tones of turquoise, aqua, and teal Dishtowels and other accessories — even the wall clock — match the backsplash. The countertop at far left also has turquoise areas. Terra cotta tile contrasts with the turqouise, making it looker even brighter.

What began as a small, extremely dated kitchen in this 1929 Spanish Casa with an even tinier nook that you could hardly eat in has turned into a gorgeous stunner full of life! We stayed true to the original style of the home and selected materials to complement and update its Spanish aesthetic. Luckily for us, our clients were on board with some color-loving ideas too! The peacock blue cabinets pair beautifully with the patterned tile and let those gorgeous accents shine! We kept the original copper hood and designed a functional kitchen with mixed metals, wire mesh cabinet detail, more counter space and room to entertain!
