A LIFE IN PARADISE
ONE NEWLYWED COUPLE’S HOME MARRIES ELEMENTS OF SAND AND SEA IN KEY WEST

Homeowner Kirk Holland bought a piece of paradise in Key West’s historic Casa Marina neighborhood after retiring and relocating from Atlanta, Ga. He commissioned architect Matthew Stratton, interior designer Jennifer Corredor, builder Denis Savoie and landscape architect Craig Reynolds to create his dream home. The plan: to set the stage for his proposal to then girlfriend, Judy, and embark on a new phase of his life.
Embracing a modern take on the Key West style famed for its pastel-hued, conch-style houses and laid-back attitude, Corredor designed a simple, elegant and unpretentious interior scheme for this 3,900-square-foot home. A tropical sensation flows freely with natural materials and a color palette that reflect the island’s backdrop of sandy beaches, brilliant skies and cresting ocean waves.
Polished white-glass tile flooring downstairs contrasts with African teak wood flooring upstairs, while cherry wood paneling and custom wall treatments create texture. To the breezy blue and white theme throughout, the designer added a zest of coral, inspired by the Royal Poinciana tree that frames the arbor by the pool. “The whole idea with ocean hues and wood tones is to emulate the surroundings,” Corredor says. “I think these elements add character to a space, as well as warmth.”
The great room reflects Corredor’s light airy approach. In the living area, accent pillows with a coral-print fabric and an “Axiom Glass Thorn” coral-hued bowl, both from Coconut Grove Gallery, add a dash of color as well as organic curves that augment the lines of the sofa and contrast with the angular glass tables. An ode to the home’s Key West atmosphere, Flower In Movement, a painting by artist Martha Dominguez, combines a floral motif with a wavy dimension that echoes the gardens as well as the ocean. “The architect used a NanaWall, which is a special feature,” Corredor says. “It can be pulled all the way back, entirely open, to create a seamless feel that the room carries on from inside to outside.”
“SET AMIDST LUSH BOTANICAL GARDENS, THE HOUSE HAS A BEACHY,
SPA-LIKE ATMOSPHERE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE FLOATING,” INTERIOR DESIGNER JENNIFER CORREDOR SAYS.

Find the right local pro for your project

Working in TV means there will be very, very, very long days in which you’ll barely be able to text family, let alone actually see and/or talk to them. So when designing Rob’s office, I wanted to ensure that his wife, Eryn, and daughter, Madelynne, had a strong presence in the space. I did that by anchoring his desk area with giant-sized black and white photography of the family printed on canvas and outfitted with floating frames. For extra, versatile seating, we added a wishbone chair which can double as extra surface for keeping reference books and/or magazines. After hours, the desk stays lit with a pair of space-age table lamps which kinda seem like a mashup of something from A Clockwork Orange and The Jetsons. http://hayn.tl/4p3

Our attempt at a North Shore Boston Victorian-era Dining Room. Although we do not entertain a lot, the room is very visible and was worth a complete overhaul from 1990s-era decor. We were propelled by a burst cast-iron pipe in the winter of 2021! The project is almost done now, just waiting for a 19th century sofa to be added (after its much-needed re-upholstery). Will update in early April with better photos.

This handmade custom designed kitchen was created for an historic restoration project in Northern NJ. Handmade white cabinetry is a bright and airy pallet for the home, while the Provence Blue Cornufe with matching custom hood adds a unique splash of color. While the large farm sink is great for cleaning up, the prep sink in the island is handily located right next to the end grain butcher block counter top for chopping. The island, which has seating for 4, is anchored by a tray ceiling and two antique lanterns. A pot filler is located over the range for convenience.

We are pleased to announce that we were awarded the 2015 Best Kitchen Renovation by the Harrisburg Builders Association for our project completed in the summer of 2014.
Teresa & Duane Brunot wanted to update their small 1980's kitchen. With the help of our talented designer, Tracy West, and ideas found on Houzz.com, the Brunot's created their dream kitchen. Our "exceptional crew" was able to bring the design to life with traditional raised panel doors with rope molding and glaze. Countertop selections include Napoli, Rainforest, and Atlantis granite. A custom made mantle was added between the built-in bookshelves. A beautiful wet bar was added to also improve the living space.

"I met Tracy West through a friend of mine. I emailed Tracy and the very next day we had an appointment. We met with Tracy several times before we signed our contract. She never tired of all of our questions, emails, texts and pictures of ideas that we found on Houzz. I've spoken to Brandon O'Hanlon several times and no matter what I asked for, he made a way for it to happen. He is very personable and professional. O'Hanlon Kitchens took our ideas and made it happen. They took my very small 1980's kitchen and turned it into a beautiful open floor plan kitchen. Not only did they do my kitchen, they also replaced my 1980's brick fireplace with a custom mantle (from a picture I found on Houzz) and added built-ins on either side. And it didn't stop there. They also added a wet bar in the room that we like to call the Parlor. I couldn't be happier with my new home. I love coming home and cooking now. I highly recommend Brandon O'Hanlon, Tracy West and their exceptional crew!" Teresa Brunot

Seen here in the foreground is Chastetree, or Vitex, (Vitex agnus-castus). If you are missing lilacs, try this standout shurb/ small tree. We used mostly vibrant hot colors in this landscape and the cool bluish purple of Vitex contrasts nicely with the other, brighter landscape plants. It can be planted wherever a smaller tree might enhance the landscape, even in a planter! The compound leaves and gray bark also make this plant a beautiful addition to a shrubbery border.
The wide variety of chastetree cultivars offer a choice in flower color. 'Silver Spire' and 'Alba' have white flowers while 'Rosea' has pink flowers. 'Shoal Creek' boasts show-stopping purple blooms while 'Purpurea' cultivars have delicate lilac flowers. This large, deciduous flowering shrub or small tree is found in gardens across the country. It puts on a show from late spring through fall with its beautiful bluish-purple flowers clustered along tall spikes.
The curious name, "chastetree" finds its roots in a Roman book, Naturalis Historia. This early natural history text was written in the first century AD. The author was Pliny the Elder, a noted naturalist, writer, and military commander of the early Roman empire. He notes that women in Athens kept branches of the tree under their beds during the feast of Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, grain, and fertility. These young women believe the leaves of the plant would help them remain pure, thus the "chastetree". Pliny also notes the origin of another of this plant's names: vitex. The name vitex comes from the Latin vieo, meaning to weave. Pliny believed this name was connected to the tree's use in Roman basket weaving.
