All Weather teamed up with the Property Brothers and Queen of Broadway Idina Menzel on this week’s episode of HGTV’s hit show CELEBRTIY IOU. In the Idina Menzel’s Slam Dunk Reno episode, Idina pivots from her award-winning stage, film and music success to give back and surprise her good friend and son’s basketball coach James, by transforming his detached garage into a dedicated office and athletic retreat. James Hunt founded Culture Run, a youth basketball program that gives kids the skills to succeed in both basketball and life. With IDINA MENZEL’S surprise renovation, James is one step closer to running a centralized training facility and headquarters where kids can drop by for counseling, basketball tips, and more. When the PROPERTY BROTHERS meet up with Idina to demo the garage, they involve her in every step. Menzel gets her hands dirty by swinging a sledgehammer, operating an electric hand saw and removing storage bins. “I didn’t know they get as down and dirty as they do,” Menzel commented. “I also didn’t know they were gonna have me do so much!” Menzel also helped choose the tile, cabinets, hardware, flooring and the overall color palette. “I boxed it to the ceiling, added base trim to the bottom, and added a gorgeous lighting detail, all to complement the beautiful glossy cabinets. The cabinets needed to be as deep as possible so I used 24-inch-deep sizing on the tall cabinets as well as on the stacked cabinets above. But I only wanted a 16-inch-deep cabinet above the workbench, and I had 24-inch-deep stacked cabinet above that. Instead of a set-back, this became an opportunity: I added an amazing lighting detail using 4 puck lights to highlight this unique feature. It was something you’d wouldn’t typically do in a garage. They loved it because there is nothing typical about this remodel. I also used a specialty pantry cabinet with roll-outs, added tons of drawers in the workbench, and built-out every inch of space on the two walls. The third wall I left open allowing access for the driver to get out of the car. There, we made use of the space by adding Omni track around the multiple utility obstacles on the wall. The result? This project is more than meets the eye! In a gorgeous neighborhood in Del Mar, San Diego, California, This unique small custom wine cellar truly acts as a showstopper. Originally within this house, the door which now faces outward used to be around the corner in a small hallway, virtually eliminating any visibility into this contemporary walk in custom wine cellar. Upon seeing the location of this space within the house, Gene Walder and the knowledgeable team at Vintage Cellars knew that to really take advantage of the room provided, (which is actually below the stairs), they needed to get rid of the original door and add a brand new one facing the main living space. Just a small feat in a series of unique custom features within this cellar! Here at Vintage Cellars, before any design takes shape, it is vital to understand what the clients wants and needs are based on their growing collection of wine. Q: Tell us about your Valencia floor. A: Out of all our interior selections, we began with our choice of flooring. Even though the Valencia Walnut flooring is softer than most wood species, we are careful with it, and Walnut is what we wanted. Our Walnut floor feels almost cushiony underfoot compared to Oak or Hickory. We are careful not to drag furniture over it and we do not wear our outside shoes in the house. I’ve done a lot of work with Walnut so I knew how it would perform. The feeling you get from Walnut is worth putting up with the risk of damage. I love that it’s like a piece of beautiful furniture. We lie on it and do our stretches on it. It’s super comfortable. The Walnut flooring is the significant feature for creating the luxurious, warm and cozy atmosphere for the house we were wanting.

This kitchen renovation started when the ceiling light began to flicker on and off. Realizing the age of that light fixture brought the homeowners to wonder just how long the rest of their appliances would last. The kitchen was more than fifteen years old. Remodeling the kitchen was the opportunity they needed to create the space they desperately wanted. First on the list was an area to entertain and cook, second was that is be Kid friendly for their grandchildren, and third, they wanted the kitchen to open up to their adjacent living room. All new appliances, quality Fieldstone cabinets, and new hardwood flooring throughout the first floor brought this kitchen up to speed. They liked the idea of extending the counter to create a large seating area. This turned out to be the best loved feature of their new kitchen. Working with the designer and the granite company, they made a unique “tear drop” extension of the counter for seating. The old “breakfast” table moved out! Bright, airy and beautiful- the homeowners are thrilled.
