In the Snoop Dogg’s Winning Gift episode, Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, the 50 year old hip hop icon, songwriter, and media personality aka Snoop Dogg, trades in his mic for a sledgehammer and helps transform his close friend and business partner Commish’s old detached garage into a personalized luxury retreat meets home office where he can work, have a space for league meetings or just take time out to relax with his family and friends . Khalil ‘Commish’ Wadood has spent more than 17 years humbly serving the Compton Community as the commissioner of Snoop Dogg’s Youth Football League. Snoop credits Commish for brining his vision to life. His dedication to the leagues is what helped the program succeed. “He’s graced so many kids and families and serves as a family figure to many,” praised Snoop Dogg. “It’s time he gets what he deserves. This is something I wanted to do for him to just let him know I love him and I care about him. To pay homage to the Commish’s favorite NFL team, the Raiders, The Property Brothers chose modern black and white design elements for the living space, kitchen, bathroom, outdoor patio with high end style and high tech finishes. This project was done over several phases during the last 12 years. The front patio and pool remodel was first. Plantings were the second phase, the Hottub and fire pit were added for the third stage and the BBQ and arbor were the last phase in 2018. This yard was made for entertainment with several unique destinations, and places to hang out.

This expansive outdoor deck and garden is the ultimate in luxury entertaining, lounging, dining and includes amenities for shade, a vegetable garden, outdoor seating, outdoor dining, grilling and a glass enclosure with heaters to get the most enjoyment and extended use year round. Rooftopia incorporated multiple customized Renson pergolas into the central dining and lounge areas. Each of three Renson pergola systems and their unique features are controlled with the touch of a button. The motorized overhead louvers can be enjoyed open or fully closed to provide shade and a waterproof cover. Each pergola has integrated dimmable LED lighting in the roof blades or louvers. The seating and lounge area was designed with gorgeous modern furnishings and a luxurious fire table. The lounge area can be fully enclosed by sliding glass panels around its walls, to capture the heat from the fire table and integrated Renson heaters. A privacy and shade screen can also be retractable at the west to offer another layer of protection from the intensity of the setting sun. The lounges also feature an integrated sound system and mobile TV cabinet so the space can be used year round to stay warm and cozy while watching a movie or a football game. The outdoor kitchen and dining area features appliances by Hestan and highly customized concrete countertops with matching shelves mounted on the wall. The aluminum cabinets are custom made by Urban Bonfire and feature accessories for storing kitchen items like dishes, appliances, beverages, an ice maker and receptacles for recycling and refuse. The Renson pergola over the dining area also integrates a set of sliding loggia panels to offer a modern backdrop, add privacy and block the sun. Rooftopia partnered with the talented Derek Lerner for original artwork that was transformed into a large-scale mural, and with the help of Chicago Sign Systems, the artwork was enlarged, printed and installed as one full wall of the penthouse. This artwork is truly a special part of the design. Rooftopia customized the design of the planter boxes in partnership with ORE Designs to streamline the look and finish of the metal planter containers. Many of the planter boxes also have toe kick lighting to improve the evening ambiance. Several large planters are home to birch trees, ornamental grasses, annual flowers and the design incorporates containers for seasonal vegetables and an herb garden. Our teams partnered with Architects, Structural engineers, electricians, plumbers and sound engineers to upgrade the roof to support the pergola systems, integrate lighting and appliances, an automatic watering system and outdoor sound systems. This large residential roof deck required a multi year development, permitting and installation timeline, proving that the best things are worth the wait.

Rooftopia continues to enjoy working with this client on multiple projects, starting with this lovely first collaboration. The clients goals were to use mostly black finishes with a pink statement dining chair! We developed the space with some existing project challenges so our first tasks involved modifications to the existing pergola and flooring tiles. We integrated a retractable fabric shade canopy and several up/down light fixtures into the new space. We designed, built and installed privacy screens made of faux greenery to block out unsightly views toward the alley. We added cedar screens for privacy and to act as a backdrop for an outdoor TV. We also customized and installed a lovely outdoor cabinet system with drawers and a built-in outdoor refrigerator. Their coffee table doubles as an ice bin to top off the overall party vibe!

The owners of this waterfront property were in search of an estate that would afford retirement in style. They envisioned Sunday family dinners, pool parties for their grandchildren, and philanthropic galas with one hundred guests. Our charge was to design a residence that could support events of a grand scale without losing the intimacy of their home. Taking our inspiration from the shingle-style homes on Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and Cape Cod, we developed a layout that responds to the 270-degree water views and the mountains beyond.

Stuart Wade, Envision Virtual Tours The design goal was to produce a corporate or family retreat that could best utilize the uniqueness and seclusion as the only private residence, deep-water hammock directly assessable via concrete bridge in the Southeastern United States. Little Hawkins Island was seven years in the making from design and permitting through construction and punch out. The multiple award winning design was inspired by Spanish Colonial architecture with California Mission influences and developed for the corporation or family who entertains. With 5 custom fireplaces, 75+ palm trees, fountain, courtyards, and extensive use of covered outdoor spaces; Little Hawkins Island is truly a Resort Residence that will easily accommodate parties of 250 or more people. The concept of a “village” was used to promote movement among 4 independent buildings for residents and guests alike to enjoy the year round natural beauty and climate of the Golden Isles. The architectural scale and attention to detail throughout the campus is exemplary. From the heavy mud set Spanish barrel tile roof to the monolithic solid concrete portico with its’ custom carved cartouche at the entrance, every opportunity was seized to match the style and grace of the best properties built in a bygone era.

Ca. 1919 Craftsman Style Home, Revisioned by the South’s Leading Designers Twenty‐two leading interior designers from three different states completely restored this historic home on Franklin’s historic Main Street as part of the O’More Show House, which was opened to the public from May 12‐27, 2016 and presented by leading sponsor, PARKS. This is the third O’More Show House event in recent years, with participating designers having ties to O’More College of Design in downtown Franklin and proceeds benefiting the College’s School of Interior Design. The 2016 home, a 5,200 square‐foot ca. 1919 brick and stucco Craftsman‐style cottage, is a significant contributing property to the National Register‐listed Hincheyville Historic District. The owners have undertaken a total renovation of the home’s interior while leaving the street‐view exterior intact. We were recommended to project managers and O'More College for the entire landscape design and installation: landscaping, irrigation, lighting, paver walks and patios, paver-raised porch with steps, paver banding in driveway!

Now the house is bright and light, featuring open layouts, loads of natural light, and a clean design maximizing family living areas. This stunning 4,500 sq/ft one-level penthouse was purchased as a retirement home for a young at heart couple who enjoys featuring their art with the backdrop of the beautiful city skyline. The kitchen and bathrooms were personalized with this client’s taste of clean and modern surfaces, while a third bedroom was converted into a full-size walk-in closet for wardrobe items to be clearly displayed. Kitchen Photo. "Business in the Front, Party in the Back" This project provided Mark with the opportunity to revisit a project from the first year of his practice. Our clients were the third owners since Mark first worked on this house in 1987. The original project had consisted of a small addition to the rear of an existing single-story (over garage) house. The new owners wanted to completely remodel the house and add two floors. In addition they wanted it to be MODERN. This was a perfect fit for where the firm had evolved to over the years, but the neighbors weren't having it. The neighbors were very organized and didn’t like the idea of a large modern structure in what was a mostly traditional block. We were able to work with the neighbors to agree to a design that was Craftsman on the front and modern on the interior and rear. Because of this dichotomy, we sometimes refer to this as the "Mullet House". We were able to minimize the apparent height of the facade by hiding the top floor behind a dormered roof. Unique features of this house include a stunning roof deck with glass guardrails, a custom stair with a zigzag edge and a guardrail composed of vertical stainless steel tubes and an asymmetrical fireplace composition. This custom-built staircase connects the new family room to the existing kitchen and is offset by a square newel post. The red oak floor is covered with a carpet tread. What started as an addition project turned into a full house remodel in this Modern Craftsman home in Narberth, PA. The addition included the creation of a sitting room, family room, mudroom and third floor. As we moved to the rest of the home, we designed and built a custom staircase to connect the family room to the existing kitchen. We laid red oak flooring with a mahogany inlay throughout house. Another central feature of this is home is all the built-in storage. We used or created every nook for seating and storage throughout the house, as you can see in the family room, dining area, staircase landing, bedroom and bathrooms. Custom wainscoting and trim are everywhere you look, and gives a clean, polished look to this warm house.
