The 2021 Southern Living Idea House is inspiring on multiple levels—from the stunning location in Louisville, Kentucky overlooking the Ohio river, to the design-driven home that marries European countryside vibes with a timeless aesthetic. Dubbed the “forever home,” the concept was to design for all stages of life, with thoughtful spaces that meet the ever-evolving needs of families today.
The 5,545-square-foot, Colonial Greek Revival Cottage-style home is located in The Breakers at Prospect community and is the collective effort of many. While it may have formerly been a trend to embrace open layout living spaces, following the pandemic families are seeking spaces in the home that feel separated, to allow for privacy. Rooms with clear intentions allow more options for areas in which to spend time, depending on your mood, and this home perfectly balances livable and lively ideas.
Marvin products were chosen for this project to maximize the use of natural light, allow airflow from outdoors to indoors, and provide expansive views that overlook the Ohio River.

We collaborated with Interior Specialist, Aspen Vanhoorebeck from @acozyblessednest, in her teenage boy's bedroom redesign.
Originally Aspen’s 16-year-old son wanted all-black painted bedroom walls. Not especially thrilled on the dark color choice (she hoped the room would easily transition into a guest room when he went to college), Aspen looked for another option. When she found our smooth Timeless Nickel Gap Midnight Black shiplap, she and her son were able to reach a happy medium.
At the end of her project, Aspen shared, "We loved working with UFP-Edge to put the black nickel gap shiplap in my son's room. My favorite part is that it comes pre-cut to fit the wall. It made the project easy enough for anyone to do! Not only do I love it, but my son does too! We’ve gotten so many compliments. I can’t wait for the next project!"
Our UFP-Edge Timeless nickel gap shiplap adds incredible character to any space with its sleek lines and clean finish. The lasting appeal of smooth shiplap provides the perfect design element for a variety of design styles, including both modern farmhouse and transitional. Take your interior design to the next level by installing Timeless shiplap for added dimension and character.

Designing a whole home remodel for a client’s second home was an exciting opportunity to create a space that felt both welcoming and timeless. The clients wanted a space that felt light, bright, and timeless. We focused on an open-concept layout, maximizing natural light and incorporating soft, neutral tones that complemented the desert landscape. The main showstopper of the home was the kitchen, which the family considered the heart of the home. Featuring high-end finishes, the kitchen became a space for both cooking and gathering, designed for both functionality and elegance. Thoughtful touches, such as custom cabinetry, integrated appliances, and custom hood, helped elevate the entire space, making it a true focal point. With a thoughtful blend of modern design and classic touches, the remodel was tailored to ensure the space could grow with the family and become a place they would cherish and enjoy for years to come.

APD was hired to update the kitchen, living room, primary bathroom and bedroom, and laundry room in this suburban townhome. The design brought an aesthetic that incorporated a fresh updated and current take on traditional while remaining timeless and classic. The kitchen layout moved cooking to the exterior wall providing a beautiful range and hood moment. Removing an existing peninsula and re-orienting the island orientation provided a functional floorplan while adding extra storage in the same square footage. A specific design request from the client was bar cabinetry integrated into the stair railing, and we could not be more thrilled with how it came together!
The primary bathroom experienced a major overhaul by relocating both the shower and double vanities and removing an un-used soaker tub. The design added linen storage and seated beauty vanity while expanding the shower to a luxurious size. Dimensional tile at the shower accent wall relates to the dimensional tile at the kitchen backsplash without matching the two spaces to each other while tones of cream, taupe, and warm woods with touches of gray are a cohesive thread throughout.

“This is well detailed and consistent inside and out. It is a classic Mediterranean Revival in the Floridian tradition of Mizner.”
This single-family residential home in Gables Estates, Coral Gables, Florida, successfully pays respect to the architecture of the Mediterranean and Renaissance Italian styles. From the use of courtyards to the high level of detailing, this project emphasizes the most picturesque and expressive qualities of these styles. The residence reflects the visions of two of Coral Gables’ first architects, who designed beautiful and timeless architecture in this garden city to become a lasting piece in the landscape. This project not only captures the breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay, but with timeless style and lush landscaping, it creates a centerpiece for the view from the bay to Coral Gables.
The home is designed as a long gallery, with spaces connected by courtyards and public realms. Another large inspiration for this project was the idea of the garden and landscape. With Coral Gables as a garden city, landscape became an integral part of the conception and design.
The durability of Marvin products, their ability to stand up to the South Florida climate, as well as the Marvin attention to detail and proportion, made them the perfect choice to employ in a project of such high standards. The range of products allowed the freedom of design to explore all possibilities and turn visions into reality. The result was a lasting piece of architecture that would reflect a level of detail in every part of its structure.

What happens when we design for teenagers? It requires a blend of sensitivity, creativity, and long-term thinking. This project was all about creating a bedroom that could evolve with a young girl - not just for today, but for the next decade and beyond.
Instead of following fleeting trends, we focused on a timeless and versatile design. The space was carefully curated using a neutral palette of whites and off-whites, providing a calming atmosphere and a flexible foundation for the years to come. Soft textures and layered materials added warmth and depth without relying on bold colors or patterns.
One of the standout elements is a recycled desk, transformed with a creative touch. By updating the handles and adding an arched mirror, it became a multifunctional piece - perfect for both study and self-care. This approach not only adds character, but also promotes sustainability and smart use of resources.
At PIEKNO Studio, we believe that design should reflect the personality and needs of the client, while offering elegance, comfort, and longevity. This project is a reflection of that vision.

This sophisticated living room brings together comfort and elegance with a timeless, transitional design. Deep navy sofas anchor the space, accented with soft neutral throw pillows for a layered, inviting look. A pair of upholstered armchairs with navy accent pillows balances the seating arrangement, while large windows dressed in patterned drapery allow natural light to flood the room. The coffered ceiling adds architectural detail, drawing the eye upward and giving the space a sense of grandeur. A traditional round wood coffee table and a patterned area rug ground the design, while oversized wall art in serene gray tones ties the palette together. Styled with hydrangeas and curated accessories, this room blends sophistication with livable warmth. Its the perfect space for gathering with family or entertaining guests.
