For this ground up project in one of Lafayette’s most prized neighborhoods, we brought an East Coast sensibility to this West Coast residence. Honoring the client’s love of classical interiors, we layered the traditional architecture with a crisp contrast of saturated colors, clean moldings and refined white marble. In the living room, tailored furnishings are punctuated by modern accents, bespoke draperies and jewelry like sconces. Built-in custom cabinetry, lasting finishes and indoor/outdoor fabrics were used throughout to create a fresh, elegant yet livable home for this active family of five.

Every homeowner dreams of their master suite becoming a relaxing getaway from the activities of everyday living. This master suite is just that! Calming blues and grays create the background for a soothing and restful retreat. The sitting area with upholstered wood-framed side chairs offers an alternate spot to curl up with a good book. A custom shaped bound carpet beneath the sitting area adds warmth, texture and subtle pattern to the room. The wrought iron bed heralds stately tradition without being overdone. Artwork is a key factor in the space. Unique black botanicals add drama above the distressed wood chests. A pair of canvases evoking water and grasses draws the eye all the way into the master suite. All new finishes were selected to brighten and enliven the spaces, and the home was filled with a mix of furnishings that convey a modern twist on traditional elements. This custom, high-performance home was designed and built to a LEED for Homes Platinum rating, the highest rating given to homes when certified by the US Green Building Council. The house has been laid out to take maximum advantage of both passive and active solar energy, natural ventilation, low impact and recyclable materials, high efficiency lighting and controls, in a structure that is very simple and economical to build. The envelope of the house is designed to require a minimum amount of energy in order to live and use the home based on the lifestyle of the occupants. The home will have an innovative HVAC system that has been recently developed by engineers from the University of Illinois which uses considerably less energy than a conventional heating and cooling system and provides extremely high indoor air quality utilizing a CERV (conditioned energy recovery ventilation system) combined with a cost effective installation. We transformed a Georgian brick two-story built in 1998 into an elegant, yet comfortable home for an active family that includes children and dogs. Although this Dallas home’s traditional bones were intact, the interior dark stained molding, paint, and distressed cabinetry, along with dated bathrooms and kitchen were in desperate need of an overhaul. We honored the client’s European background by using time-tested marble mosaics, slabs and countertops, and vintage style plumbing fixtures throughout the kitchen and bathrooms. We balanced these traditional elements with metallic and unique patterned wallpapers, transitional light fixtures and clean-lined furniture frames to give the home excitement while maintaining a graceful and inviting presence. We used nickel lighting and plumbing finishes throughout the home to give regal punctuation to each room. The intentional, detailed styling in this home is evident in that each room boasts its own character while remaining cohesive overall.

The stair grows out of the garden level ordering the surrounding rooms as it rises to a light filled courtyard at the Master suite on the top floor. On each level the rooms are arranged in a circuit around the stair core, making a series of distinct suites for the children, for the parents, and for their common activities.

Elegant living room photo in Boston

This was a complete custom kitchen remodel where we opened up the space to more than double its original size. I utilized my space planning talent to open up the area and provide a kitchen that works for not only preparing meals, but a great space for the children to do homework and other activities.

This Mission style kitchen and breakfast nook was a complete gut and renovation for an active family with two teenagers. The Mission styling kept it streamlined, organized, and unfussy. Rich natural cherry cabinets with black hardware accented the black appliances and touches of black in the granite. There is a discernible balance of wood, glass, stone, and textiles in this design. The lighting fixtures are all Arts and Crafts designs from Quoizel in Tiffany look. Rugs are a family of flatweaves, reversible and ideal in high traffic areas. The club chairs in the lower right are near the mud room entrance and the perfect place for the kids to sit and work on homework (that doesn't require a desk) and socialize while dinner is being made. A prominent, socially active couple with five children asked Pineapple House Interior Design to help them update their newly acquired traditional home. The man of the house is a 6’6” professional athlete, as are his best friends and teammates, which required that the furniture throughout the home be custom-made and oversized.
