The project is a series of mural panels painted in the artist’s studio and installed on all walls of a dining room. The imagery is of soft landscape with classical architectural elements, loosely based on an Arcadian 18th century French wallpaper scenic. The murals are painted in grisaille, a traditional technique which uses a monochromatic palette of grey to create depth. In this case the artist used the soft painterly style of Fragonard and Boucher to create the lush landscape in the same grey palette. The freshness and vitality of the brushwork distinguishes these murals from printed wall covering. Silver leaf detailing on the pilasters adds a luminous effect. This project won an Acanthus Award for excellence from the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art in 2014.

Project by Studio H:T principal in charge Brad Tomecek (now with Tomecek Studio Architecture). This project tests the theory of bringing high quality design to a prefabricated factory setting. Enrolled in the LEED-Home Pilot, this residence completed certification. The modular home was conceived as two boxes that slide above one another to create outdoor living space and a lower covered rear entry. The passive solar design invites large amounts of light from the south while minimizing openings to the east and west. Factory construction saves both time and costs while reducing waste and using a controlled labor force. Built in a factory north of Denver, the home arrived by flatbed truck in two pieces and was craned into place in about 4 hours providing a fast, sustainable, cost effective alternative to traditional homebuilding techniques. Upgraded lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, doors, door hardware, windows, tile and bamboo flooring were incorporated into the design. 80% of the residence was completed in the factory in less than 3 weeks and other items were finished on site including the exterior stucco, garage, metal railing and stair. Stack-Slide-Stitch describes the conceptual process of how to tie together two distinct modular boxes. Stack refers to setting one modular directly on top of the other. Slide refers to the action that creates an upper southern deck area while simultaneously providing a covered rear entry area. The stitching or interlocking occurs with the upward extension of the lower volume with the front deck walls and with the rear two story vertical.

This impressive backsplash features Artistic Tile's Small Toledo Silver waterjet mosaic as an elegant picture frame above it's stove. This mosaic consists of Thassos marble lines with Antiqued Mirror background in the classic arabesque shape. It's framed with Charleston Mirror Petit Hand Silvered pencils which are handmade using traditional techniques by skilled artists. This exquisite mirrored glass is painstakingly created piece-by-piece using a classic antiquing process. The rest of the backsplash features gorgeous Kyoto White subway tile which is made of unrefined clays, creating a roughly textured glazed surface.

All done with the keen eye of a true craftsman. “The Bailey is a tribute to the skill and passion of New Zealand’s early shipwrights”. It is with this attention to graceful lines and technique in mind, we created the Bailey Table. Using traditional techniques and tools such as the draw blade and spokeshave these tables are crafted by hand and eye to an almost silky, fluid finish. A joy to touch and view from almost any angle. Almost organic in touch and line, there are few straight lines to this sculpturally aesthetic piece. The garden needs to offer lots of space for the kids to play and the parents to relax. The perfect place to catch the last bit of sun after work. A nonchalant, natural feeling atmosphere. Lots of green (and purple). The use of the diagonal line along the house allows for a small path near the kitchen and a more generous patio area on the other side of the garden. The same stone, now as a flagstone is used a more irregular path in the lower lying section of the garden and again as the walls of the beds for the shade planting.
