Challenge: Our clients wanted to modernize the look of their 1997 home, and update all electrical and plumbing infrastructure. Structural issues were apparent at the onset of the project with missing bearing points and beams that should have been incorporated into the original build. Solution: The work started with a complete strip out of the interior. Existing finishes, appliances, kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, electrical, plumbing, doors and frames, heating systems, all trim, drywall, insulation and vapour barrier we all removed. This left a bare wood frame shell which required some tricky structural changes to open up the interior necessitating load transfer modifications and additional foundations. The main stair was widened to create a luxurious ascent to the master bedroom overlooking the golf course. All bathrooms were fully replaced with a new kitchen designed to be open to the dining room and living room. The new interior finishes, and the essential design thereof, came together smoothly with all trades meeting agreed time frames and prices. We had a great time working with the client throughout the project. Communication was strong during the course of construction which resulted in a renovation that exceeded the client’s criteria and that also met our exacting level of quality.

We feel a waterfall of emotion when we enter this monochromatic kitchen. The focus of this remodel was to update the clean lines and maintain the modern style. This was accomplished through the use of a bright white shaker style cabinet with a contemporary 2 step style and built-in appliances. The client expressed that organization and functionality of their cabinet interiors was a priority for them so we incorporated utensil, drawer and corner storage solutions that transfer their items with the slightest pull. A waterfall edge on the peninsula counter top shows off the beautiful marble stone and creates a feature unique to this kitchen. Please note that phase I, the kitchen, was completed while Kay was employed by Redstone Kitchens. She served as the project manager and oversaw all aspects of kitchen design planning, cabinetry procurement, and material/fixture selection. Photos by Barrett Woodward of Showcase Photographers

A 200 SF addition to an existing master bedroom, this master bath and closet has created a much needed spa-like retreat to an already beautiful home. The ceramic tile floor resembles a lighter hardwood to match the rest of the home, but offers the resiliency of tile for the wet conditions of the bathroom. A double floating vanity offers plenty of storage, and four skylights and a large window offer enough natural light that artificial lighting is rarely used during the day. The shower ceramic tile resembles marble, but allows for an easier hard surface to clean and maintain. The brass fixtures allow for a warm contrast to the cool grays, and are a great alternative to the typical stainless steel or brushed aluminum look. The brass also compliments the tile floor, as does the light grey vanity color and the brass color accents in the shower tile and vanity backsplash. A small passage just before the entrance to the bathroom allows for storage space in the form of two built-in white cabinets on either side. A sliding pocket door with privacy glass provides privacy while transferring natural light from one space to the next. The overall feel is inviting and peaceful, with a natural charm brought about by the materials and colors chosen to complete this spa-like retreat.

This photo looks out onto the Breakfast Nook and Family Room from inside the Kitchen. The look of the white wall paneling that was seen within the Living Room and Dining Room has been transferred to the ceiling of these rooms, instead. This caries the more formal feel through to the back of the house, while allowing the Family Room and Kitchen designs to stand out on their own. A coffered ceiling is seen in the Family Room, while a tray ceiling with wood paneling is seen in the Kitchen. Regarding the palette, a more blueish tone is used on the Family Room walls, which ties in the blue-gray that's used in the rooms at the front of the house. White trim and the gray-toned floor remain. The double doors within the Family Room open out onto the Porch.

Bathroom - contemporary bathroom idea in Cleveland
