A coffee table is often the centerpiece of a living room, where family members gather to relax, entertain, and even work. Beyond its decorative role, a coffee table must also serve a functional purpose—holding beverages, snacks, or remote controls, and providing storage for books, magazines, or other essentials. This is where a coffee table with drawers shines. Combining practicality with style, these tables offer an elegant solution for keeping your living space organized while maintaining a chic aesthetic.
In this article, we’ll explore why a coffee table with drawers is a great choice for your home, discuss the different types available, and highlight some of the top options on the market today.
Why Choose a Coffee Table with Drawers?
Hidden Storage for a Clutter-Free Space
One of the most significant benefits of a coffee table with drawers is the hidden storage it provides. Whether it’s storing remote controls, extra coasters, TV guides, or even blankets, these drawers help you keep things organized without cluttering the surface of the table. This is especially useful in smaller living rooms or for people who like to keep their space tidy but need easy access to everyday items.
Maximizes Functionality
Coffee tables with drawers make the most of the space you have. If you’re working in a living area with limited storage, a table with built-in compartments allows you to declutter while still having a practical surface for holding drinks, snacks, or decorative objects. You get the best of both worlds—storage and functionality.
Versatility in Design
Coffee tables with drawers come in various styles and materials, meaning you can find one that perfectly complements your existing décor. Whether your taste leans toward modern, rustic, vintage, or industrial, there’s a coffee table out there that matches your vision. The added drawers often enhance the design, making them as stylish as they are practical.
Family-Friendly
Homes with children or pets can especially benefit from a coffee table with drawers. The hidden storage means that small, easily lost, or dangerous items (like pens, batteries, or scissors) can be tucked away safely. Plus, having a designated storage space can encourage tidiness in a household with busy family members.
Easy Organization
With drawers built into the coffee table, organizing your living room essentials becomes much easier. You can designate specific drawers for particular items (e.g., one for remotes, one for books, and one for magazines). This structured approach to storage reduces clutter and helps maintain an organized space.
Types of Coffee Tables with Drawers
Traditional Coffee Tables with Drawer Storage
These are classic designs with a set of drawers either on one side of the table or underneath the tabletop. They are often made from wood, offering a timeless appeal. You can find them in various wood finishes like oak, walnut, or mahogany, and they typically feature simple, clean lines.
Modern Coffee Tables with Drawer Storage
Modern coffee tables often feature sleek, minimalist designs with hidden drawers. They may include touches like glass tops, metallic legs, or smooth lacquered finishes. These tables focus on both aesthetics and practicality, offering ample storage without compromising on style.
Lift-Top Coffee Tables with Storage
For additional versatility, lift-top coffee tables combine the functionality of a regular coffee table with an elevated work surface. The top of the table lifts to reveal hidden storage beneath, while the surface can be used for eating, writing, or working. These tables often come with built-in drawers for even more organization options.
Storage Ottoman Coffee Tables
These hybrid pieces combine the cushioned comfort of an ottoman with the utility of a coffee table. Many storage ottomans come with a hinged top and internal compartments, while some models incorporate drawers along the sides. They are ideal for people who prefer a softer, more comfortable table but still need practical storage solutions.
Industrial Coffee Tables with Drawers
Industrial-style coffee tables use materials like metal and reclaimed wood, offering a rugged yet functional design. Often, these tables feature metal frames with wooden drawers or compartments. The utilitarian design makes them ideal for urban and loft-style interiors.

Tips for Styling a Coffee Table with Drawers
Keep the Top Clear for a Polished Look
While the drawers are perfect for storing smaller items, try to keep the surface of your coffee table relatively clear. Use a decorative tray, vase, or a stack of books to add style without creating clutter.
Use the Drawers for Hidden Storage
Use the drawers to store everyday essentials like remotes, magazines, or even small toys or blankets. This helps keep your living space organized without sacrificing style.
Coordinate with Other Furniture
To create a cohesive look, choose a coffee table that complements your other furniture pieces. If you have a sectional sofa, for example, consider a coffee table with a similar wood finish or metal accents.
Conclusion
A coffee table with drawers combines the best of both worlds—style and functionality. Not only does it serve as a central piece of furniture in your living room, but it also helps you keep your space organized and clutter-free. Whether you choose a modern, traditional, or industrial design, there’s a coffee table with drawers to suit your style and meet your storage needs. From hidden compartments for remotes to extra shelves for books and decorative items, these tables are a practical, stylish solution for any home.

This project entailed the draining of a 200,000 cubic foot pond which was originally constructed in the early 1900s in order to install a water feature. I had previously dammed the lower pond, which was roughly equivalent in size to the upper pond, with stonework to match the existing stone walkways. The lower pond will be utilized as a catch-basin in an effort to keep the upper pond’s water level at a sufficient height through a pump system.
After the removal of over a 100 years worth of sediment, I began constructing several terraces, stone steps, stone walkways, and several stone retaining walls — all stone features were built without the use of mortar so as to allow plant growth, such as vines and flowering plants to grow through the stonework.
The difficulty I faced, oddly enough, was trying to be as random as possible with the placement of the stones, so as to make the stonework appear as though it had been built alongside some of the pre-existing 100-year-old stone walls scattered across other areas of the property. In essence, I forced myself to leave larger gaps in between stones where I typically wouldn’t, as well as leave some stones protruding from the wall, and allowing the wall to slightly fluctuate in height. All of which required me to become a perfectionist of randomness, which was quite trying of me.
The top 2 feet of the 2,000-foot upper pond was then faced and retained with stone.

Two toned transitional Kitchen remodel featuring white main cabinets with black cabinets on the island. Also features quartzite countertops and natural stone backsplash.

The rear of this Central Street Neighborhood yard floods regularly during heavy rains. Rather than fight mother nature, Prassas Landscape Studio created a rain garden to store excess stormwater until it can percolate into the soil. The rain garden is also fed by the roof’s runoff and basement’s sump pump through a contemporary steel runnel. Stone steppers penetrate a curved wall to lead to the back firepit seating area. The upper terrace stairs were modernized and the lower terrace was reconfigured.

Klopf Architecture, Arterra Landscape Architects and Henry Calvert of Calvert Ventures Designed and built a new warm, modern, Eichler-inspired, open, indoor-outdoor home on a deeper-than-usual San Mateo Highlands property where an original Eichler house had burned to the ground.
The owners wanted multi-generational living and larger spaces than the original home offered, but all parties agreed that the house should respect the neighborhood and blend in stylistically with the other Eichlers. At first the Klopf team considered re-using what little was left of the original home and expanding on it. But after discussions with the owner and builder, all parties agreed that the last few remaining elements of the house were not practical to re-use, so Klopf Architecture designed a new home that pushes the Eichler approach in new directions.
One disadvantage of Eichler production homes is that the house designs were not optimized for each specific lot. A new custom home offered the team a chance to start over. In this case, a longer house that opens up sideways to the south fit the lot better than the original square-ish house that used to open to the rear (west). Accordingly, the Klopf team designed an L-shaped “bar” house with a large glass wall with large sliding glass doors that faces sideways instead of to the rear like a typical Eichler. This glass wall opens to a pool and landscaped yard designed by Arterra Landscape Architects.
Driving by the house, one might assume at first glance it is an Eichler because of the horizontality, the overhanging flat roof eaves, the dark gray vertical siding, and orange solid panel front door, but the house is designed for the 21st Century and is not meant to be a “Likeler.” You won't see any posts and beams in this home. Instead, the ceiling decking is a western red cedar that covers over all the beams. Like Eichlers, this cedar runs continuously from inside to out, enhancing the indoor / outdoor feeling of the house, but unlike Eichlers it conceals a cavity for lighting, wiring, and insulation. Ceilings are higher, rooms are larger and more open, the master bathroom is light-filled and more generous, with a separate tub and shower and a separate toilet compartment, and there is plenty of storage. The garage even easily fits two of today's vehicles with room to spare.
A massive 49-foot by 12-foot wall of glass and the continuity of materials from inside to outside enhance the inside-outside living concept, so the owners and their guests can flow freely from house to pool deck to BBQ to pool and back.
During construction in the rough framing stage, Klopf thought the front of the house appeared too tall even though the house had looked right in the design renderings (probably because the house is uphill from the street). So Klopf Architecture paid the framer to change the roofline from how we had designed it to be lower along the front, allowing the home to blend in better with the neighborhood. One project goal was for people driving up the street to pass the home without immediately noticing there is an "imposter" on this lot, and making that change was essential to achieve that goal.
This 2,606 square foot, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom Eichler-inspired new house is located in San Mateo in the heart of the Silicon Valley.

The purpose of the design that Janice Teague created, included giving the chef room to operate and cooking students room to watch, along with room for guests to easily gather in the kitchen and easily flow into and out of the adjoining areas without cramping the cook’s space. Some of the significant changes included:
Working from the back end of the room to create a larger pantry with the existing pantry opening as well as an enclosed space for a refrigerator.
Adding a small “breakfast bar” around the corner with a microwave, coffee maker, toaster and pull-out bread board. It’s right across the hallway from the door to the garage, so it provides great “grab-and-go” functionality without disturbing the main kitchen.
In the end, every detail was nailed down to the chef’s delight, right down to the decorative overhead lights. “She’s gotten quite a few compliments on the renovation,” said Janice. As the awards confirm, this is clearly a kitchen that makes a statement!

Staircase - huge mediterranean wooden curved staircase idea in Kansas City with painted risers

This lovely little modern farmhouse is located at the base of the foothills in one of Boulder’s most prized neighborhoods. Tucked onto a challenging narrow lot, this inviting and sustainably designed 2400 sf., 4 bedroom home lives much larger than its compact form. The open floor plan and vaulted ceilings of the Great room, kitchen and dining room lead to a beautiful covered back patio and lush, private back yard. These rooms are flooded with natural light and blend a warm Colorado material palette and heavy timber accents with a modern sensibility. A lyrical open-riser steel and wood stair floats above the baby grand in the center of the home and takes you to three bedrooms on the second floor. The Master has a covered balcony with exposed beamwork & warm Beetle-kill pine soffits, framing their million-dollar view of the Flatirons.
Its simple and familiar style is a modern twist on a classic farmhouse vernacular. The stone, Hardie board siding and standing seam metal roofing create a resilient and low-maintenance shell. The alley-loaded home has a solar-panel covered garage that was custom designed for the family’s active & athletic lifestyle (aka “lots of toys”). The front yard is a local food & water-wise Master-class, with beautiful rain-chains delivering roof run-off straight to the family garden.
