Kitchen in Montevista | Room Type: Full Home Renovation +Furnishings / Flip House – 3,169 Square Feet | 4 Bed | 3 Bath | Project Name: Montevista | Key Feature: A modern transformation of a flip home, highlighted by a newly designed statement fireplace wall and custom sliding doors and closet addition that created a functional fourth bedroom. Challenge: Supply delays due to COVID impacted material availability during the project. Solution: The team refreshed outdated finishes available and redesigned key architectural elements to create a clean, modern space that would appeal broadly to buyers and support a quick resale. The client's linens are now separated by type. Medicines are also organized by type (cold/allergy, pain relief etc.) The husband travels often for work so his travel sized items are organized by type (hair care, body lotion, toothpaste etc.) Finally, cleaning items have a section of their own.

The objective for this design was to create non-traditional artwork to serve as a striking focal point for this master bath. After much brainstorming, this designer started a search for some type of platter, bowl or plate that could be framed as a set. Crate & Barrel’s Suki bowls, although matte black on the outside, gleamed with a beautiful gold finish from the interior which sparked an instant flash of creativity within this designer! The next step involved having a woodworker make a simple oak frame, after which the bowls went from centerpiece to high end art. The homeowner absolutely loved the results and guests comment on the beautiful art and guests are astonished to learn they were made with repurposed materials!

Our clients wanted to incorporate an East Coast vibe into their home. The kitchen had a great layout, but a wilted palette of earth tones looked outdated and uninspired. With a busy lifestyle and two kids in school, the couple needed a highly functional space that didn't skimp on style. Their research of design-build firms led them to the JRP website, and they called for a consultation the same day. After years of living with dark cabinets and a mix of heavy colors, the couple craved lightness. They wanted an airy kitchen with smooth, light-reflecting surfaces and a full-slab backsplash. A plan was drawn up for a complete rebuild that would change everything in the kitchen except the layout and the original tile-and-wood floors. Now bright and uncluttered, this transitional kitchen is truly a space where the family can gather for years to come. Every part of the room draws you in, creating an atmosphere that embraces lingering conversations. The holistic design balances East Coast cool with California chic. Layers of contrasting textures achieve a high level of polish that looks and feels exceptional. The full-slab backsplash in Calacatta quartz stands out as a work of art, its glossy surface softly reflecting natural light. Matching quartz countertops add lustrous movement, where painted and natural wood textures quietly anchor the room. New, two-tone cabinetry is fresh and on-trend. A stunning linear chandelier in bronze evokes classical warmth. Where a built-in desk once collected clutter, stacked shaker cabinets now incorporate storage and visual interest. Integrated appliances, beautifully concealed behind DeWils cabinetry, hint at minimalist sophistication. Type-Variant is an award winning home from multi-award winning Minneapolis architect Vincent James, built by Yerigan Construction around 1996. The popular assumption is that it is a shipping container home, but it is actually wood-framed, copper clad volumes, all varying in size, proportion, and natural light. An older feature of the place, the small maid's room in the far corner of the kitchen, once removed, allows for a wall of pantry, a long table and vintage chandelier above it, and plenty of natural light to make the most of the Gustavian grey and white palette—painted limewood cupboards with natural interiors, enamelled lavastone countertops, basins and tiles, and hand selected split-joint mosaic for the floor and shower base of the adjoining guest bath which made for the easier structural decision to convert the linen closet from the back hall for dual entry. The simple elegance of the space is equalled by practical traditional solid wood details, dovetail drawers and birds-beak brackets for adjustable shelving, custom accents from cutting boards that nest into the lava farmer's sink and slide aside for access to the bowl to all wood lazy-Susans, utensil trays, and pantry bins.
