The client commissioned ARCA Unlimited to design their family home in Southdowns Estate. The design had to take advantage of the beautiful surrounds, whilst providing privacy from public spaces. Solid southern- and western street boundaries with perforated aluminium screens provide privacy while allowing filtered natural light into the house. A visual axis extends through the front door and entrance gallery and penetrates this privacy barrier. It links to a formal landscaped courtyard and the views beyond. A deck and seamless floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors create the threshold between inside and out. The concept of seamless transition is carried through to detailing: the simplest possible transition between different building materials is utilised. Living and bedroom spaces are orientated inward around the internal courtyard. Our client was moving into a newly built family home in Inverallochy and wanted a kitchen that would be modern and functional. Their requirements included a large central island, a separate coffee-making area, and matching furniture to optimise the space. The Nolte Lux range was selected for this kitchen, pairing Magnolia colour furniture with Lava on tall units. This choice struck a balanced aesthetic while maintaining a modern look. We used 20mm Silestone Coral Clay for the island worktop and contrasted it with Nolte 40mm Platinum Bough Oak on the perimeter, including a 100mm breakfast bar. We used all NEFF appliances including two single ovens, a microwave, warming drawer, and induction hob to fulfill every culinary need. A Blanco Subline 1 ½ undermounted sink in Tartufo and a Quooker Fusion Square Stainless Steel instant boiling water tap were added for ease of use. The living room has sleek lines and an in-built fireplace to enjoy the cold winters, while at the same time, the furniture is also functional so that the whole family can enjoy time together. There is a combination of dark wooden panels against earth tone colours fabrics. The use of various tones of beige colours allows it to bring a spirit of luxury, including the use of golden lighting fixtures. The home uses exquisite marble pieces on the wall, which is a stunning contrast to the darker wooden shelves. The Living and dining area are seamlessly combined and separated by a small wall so that entertaining and food preparation can occur simultaneously. In contrast, the hall area has more of a contemporary vibe, with plush pouffes, gold shelves and beautiful usage of Pampas grass for decorations. Now the entranceway is automatically welcoming and cosy. The master bedroom utilises high-quality fabrics for the bedding, curtains, and headboard. Elegance has been added with the use of cream wall panelling throughout the entire area. Almost every door in the home is a white wood to merge impeccably with the wall and to let the furniture pieces stand out.
