This stunning pool in Valparaiso, IN measures 20’0” x 40’0”, and is 3’5” to 6’0” deep. The raised hot tub measures 8’0” x 8’0”. Both pool and hot tub are equipped with LED color changing lights. The sunshelf provides ample sunbathing opportunities as it possesses 122 square feet of surface area. 3 color-lighted Bubbler jets adorn the sunshelf providing a vertical element. There are two swim up benches at either end of the pool, and the entry is provided in the shallow area by a large set of elongated steps attached to the sunshelf. There is also a 40’0” lineal foot infinity edge feature with spillover waterfall, with lighting in the lower basin for accent. Glass tile is featured throughout the pool, hot tub, infinity edge and face, infinity edge basin, and pool cover housing. The pool is equipped with a hydraulic, automatic pool safety cover. At opposite ends of the infinity edge are 2 custom premium black fire bowls with automatic ignition feature. The pool is finished in Wet Edge pool surface.

The master bathroom in this Bloomfield Hills home was in need of an overhaul. The room was previously cut up with an awkward layout featuring the heavily-mirrored, “Hollywood lights” look of the 1980s. Staying within the footprint of the room and moving walls to open the floor plan created a roomy uncluttered feel, which opened directly off of the master bedroom. Granting access to two separate his and hers closets, the entryway allows for a gracious amount of tall utility storage and an enclosed Asko stacked washer and dryer for everyday use. A gorgeous wall hung vanity with dual sinks and waterfall Caesarstone Mitered 2 1/4″ square edge countertop adds to the modern feel and drama that the homeowners were hoping for. As if that weren’t storage enough, the custom shallow wall cabinetry and mirrors above offer over ten feet of storage! A 90-degree turn and lowered seating area create an intimate space with a backlit mirror for personal styling. This amazing home features a backyard patio and pool area with a spectacular custom pool with many features including island which feature sitting areas and fire pit a spa as well as incredible slide which goes into the swimming pool. The pool measures roughly 2300 square feet, and has a deep end of 10'0". The spa is raised and has 12 therapy heads. There is LED colored lighting throughout the project. There is a 300 square foot zero depth beach entry into the pool with agitator jets to keep the water moving. There is also a sunshelf within the pool. The lazy river wraps around the sunken island, and the current in the lazy river is propelled by a commercial waterpark quality pumping system. The sunken island has lighting, a fire pit, and a bridge connecting it to the decking area. There is an infinity edge on one edge of the pool. The pool also has an in-floor cleaning system to keep it clean and sanitary. The swimming pool also has the ability to change colors at night utilizing the amazing LED lighting system. The pool and spa exposed aggregate finish is French Gray color. The slide that cascades down the grotto is custom built. The waterfall grotto also provide a thrilling jump off point into the deepest part of the pool. This amazing backyard was designed and built for a home in Bull Valley Illinois.

Lincoln Lighthill Architect employed several discrete updates that collectively transform this existing row house. At the heart of the home, a section of floor was removed at the top level to open up the existing stair and allow light from a new skylight to penetrate deep into the home. The stair itself received a new maple guardrail and planter, with a Fiddle-leaf fig tree growing up through the opening towards the skylight. On the top living level, an awkwardly located entrance to a full bathroom directly off the main stair was moved around the corner and out of the way by removing a little used tub from the bathroom, as well as an outdated heater in the back corner. This created a more discrete entrance to the existing, now half-bath, and opened up a space for a wall of pantry cabinets with built-in refrigerator, and an office nook at the rear of the house with a huge new awning window to let in light and air. Downstairs, the two existing bathrooms were reconfigured and recreated as dedicated master and kids baths. The kids bath uses yellow and white hexagonal Heath tile to create a pixelated celebration of color. The master bath, hidden behind a flush wall of walnut cabinetry, utilizes another Heath tile color to create a calming retreat. Throughout the home, walnut thin-ply cabinetry creates a strong contrast to the existing maple flooring, while the exposed blond edges of the material tie the two together. Rounded edges on integral pulls and door edges create pinstripe detailing that adds richness and a sense of playfulness to the design. This amazing bathroom was renovated to have a modern flare. The tile is a shiny gray porcelain that has a rectified edge so it could be butted up tight and the grout lines minimal. My client had previously chosen this tile throughout her home. The Graff Luna freestanding tub filler is mounted on a floating glass mosaic tiled wall. We relocated the tub. Instead of saw cutting into the slab floor we built a platform to hide the plumbing that the tub rests on. The floating vanity cabinets are made of laminate beautifully displaying the quartz countertop with a straight 3" mitered edge. The sides of the countertops drop to the floor on each side of the cabinet, known as a waterfall edge. My client and I designed a cut in wave on the tiled floor leading into the shiny white shower with a floating white quartz bench seat. We built in custom planters made from the quartz countertop material that balance out each side of the floating tub wall in the center of the bathroom. I must say, throughout this design process my client was involved the entire time. She played an integral role in selecting the amazing fixtures seen in this master bathroom remodel. She needed help with the layout so she reached out to us. As you can see in the results we collaborated well together. It was pleasure to work with a client who has such exquisite taste.

2015 Southwest Regional Design Award Winner! The project’s construction took place during the building of the home. The river front lot sloped drastically down toward the river making a system of retaining walls necessary to establish the usable areas of the back yard. Five separate levels of walls were constructed in order to proceed with backfilling. It was necessary to fill and compact seven feet to reach the desired grade. A large dropped deck area made for a perfect outdoor kitchen and fire pit area. As if the topography’s elevation changes weren’t enough of a challenge, the client’s number one criterion was seamless elevations both inside and outside to include all of the doorway thresholds. He also wanted the design to have a geometric and modern look. The zero edge design fit the criteria perfectly and also allowed for an infinity edge on the back to take full advantage of the elevated river view. The limestone patio is cut in random size rectangles that incorporate drains cut into limestone to maintain the seamless appearance. To enhance the modern look, we used a black iridescent glass tile for the interior including the large sun shelf as well as the six entry steps. The tile overhang of the weir wall was accomplished by first placing limestone on the gunite portion. The pool was then filled, in order to check the levelness of the edge. Minor imperfections were sanded out to insure a near perfect edge. Because of the exhaustive efforts to ensure precise leveling, the pool can operate on only one pump and at less than 50 gallons per minute. The pool is fully automated.

Our client in Emerson has a beautiful home, perched on a magnificent mountain slope with incredible views. They asked Dreamscapes to design outdoor living spaces for them in order to fully utilize the property. Their wish list included a water feature, a deck for outdoor living, a patio to take in the distant views of the mountains, a place to garden, and a natural and native planting design to fit into the existing southeastern native woodlands and mountain environment. Living on the side of a mountain means bedrock. The design incorporates the natural slope and stone and works with the terrain. A new deck was constructed to extend out from the house, floating over the bedrock where it meets the new pond. From the top of the hill, a waterfall cascades down through the native plantings into the pond below. Natural boulders were used to build seating along the pond’s edge, where you can watch the fish, tend to the aquatic plants, listen to the frogs, and even take a dip to cool off. Two natural flagstone patios were built at two different elevations to sit and enjoy the views of the landscape and the mountains. Both patios are accessible by cut stone crab orchard steps set into the slope. The space at the end of the driveway was a blank canvas and the perfect place to design and build a garden of raised beds, enclosed in a traditional picket fence. It is now filled with vegetables, herbs, and cutting flowers. The local bees and butterflies love it too. And the beautiful landscape takes on a magical look after sunset. Landscape lighting was expertly placed, using a variety of fixture types to enhance the pond, waterfalls, trees and plants, bringing the spaces to life after dark. The homeowners are both multi-talented and wanted a place to incorporate their skills. They create original art, build detailed wood work and plant edible gardens, just to name a few. This new landscape gives them and their family and friends a place to work and play and relax. It has become a haven for people and wildlife alike. Outdoor living at its finest!

The client’s request was quite common - a typical 2800 sf builder home with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, living space, and den. However, their desire was for this to be “anything but common.” The result is an innovative update on the production home for the modern era, and serves as a direct counterpoint to the neighborhood and its more conventional suburban housing stock, which focus views to the backyard and seeks to nullify the unique qualities and challenges of topography and the natural environment. The Terraced House cautiously steps down the site’s steep topography, resulting in a more nuanced approach to site development than cutting and filling that is so common in the builder homes of the area. The compact house opens up in very focused views that capture the natural wooded setting, while masking the sounds and views of the directly adjacent roadway. The main living spaces face this major roadway, effectively flipping the typical orientation of a suburban home, and the main entrance pulls visitors up to the second floor and halfway through the site, providing a sense of procession and privacy absent in the typical suburban home. Clad in a custom rain screen that reflects the wood of the surrounding landscape - while providing a glimpse into the interior tones that are used. The stepping “wood boxes” rest on a series of concrete walls that organize the site, retain the earth, and - in conjunction with the wood veneer panels - provide a subtle organic texture to the composition. The interior spaces wrap around an interior knuckle that houses public zones and vertical circulation - allowing more private spaces to exist at the edges of the building. The windows get larger and more frequent as they ascend the building, culminating in the upstairs bedrooms that occupy the site like a tree house - giving views in all directions. The Terraced House imports urban qualities to the suburban neighborhood and seeks to elevate the typical approach to production home construction, while being more in tune with modern family living patterns. Cut Coarse Stone is reminiscent of a saw-cut Turkish Limestone. The highly textural and yet contemporary linear-style installs with a clean, dry-stack application. This stone is the perfect scale for an efficient installation, appealing to both commercial and residential exteriors and interiors. The stones include three different heights of 3″, 6″ and 9″ and various lengths from 12″ to 24″. The muted color palette is indicative of natural limestone.
