This potager garden is tucked into a private, sunny courtyard. Built-in trellises lining the east side of the garden help to create the outdoor room in which the garden sits and provide a permanent structure for vining crops such as peas, tomatoes and cucumber. The custom wood-framed raised beds are stained to match the exterior trim of the house seamlessly tying the garden into the fabric of the site. Hilary Dahl

Star Jasmine isplanted around the run-- not harmful to chickens. As it grows it will blend the run into the garden and create more shady areas for the chickens. Human access to the run is concealed as one of the frame squares. The frame will be painted to match the house trim color. Dark vinyl coated chicken wire was used to be less visually noticeable. The stair pots provide room for herbs to grow.

This is their garden about a year later. Native and drought tolerant plants fill the area between the street and the set-back deer fence. The fence is transparent to keep a friendly face to neighbors.
