Garage - modern garage idea in Other

We converted this from a powder room to a full barrier free shower. Featuring a marble floor, granite countertop, new window, soft-open/close pocket door & multi-metal finishes and floor to (9') ceiling tile, this bathroom will accommodate the needs of this elderly man who has chosen to age at home. As part of this project, we needed to obviously expand the size of the space so we eliminated the front closet, which is where the new door to the garage now resides.

The wheelchair accessible vanity showing a lift out bar to prevent scalding user legs. the 45 degree end allows for a better turning radius. The lavatory faucet is adjustable using one hand.

This is an example of an eclectic landscaping in Los Angeles.

With both doors open, both the toilet and lavatory can be approached straight on. The toilet here has an electrical toilet lift to aid the user and keep from having to do deep knee bending. The wall hung sink has the pipes wrapped to prevent knee scalding.

The warm tones of the concrete paver terrace compliment the brick building and add warmth to the space.

Custom gate of steel and reclaimed (from the old gate!) wood. Thank you Kobi of California Deck Builders for bringing this to life and making it even better than I imagined!

The Blue Butterfly Sanctuary is the site of an old navel housing facility. The base was constructed in the early 90’s and then inhabited for only three years before becoming a ghost town. After 20 years and miles and miles of red tape the VOA (Veterans of America) got the go ahead to convert these 76 abandoned houses into homes for homeless single mother veterans and their children. As a single mama myself, and as a person who believes that every human who so desires to should have a place they can call home, this project moved me. I joined forces with my stellar sister, Justina Blakeney and together with the helping hands of a few dear friends, a dose of DIY genius, and a bunch of love, we turned this house into a home. The roll under vanity has only full extension drawers which are easier to use bu a seated person.A nine inch tall kick clears the wheelchair footrests.
