Our designer Sandy helped this customer with shades for their lake house. They were looking for light control from direct sun at certain times of the day, and wanted to maintain their view when they were not needed. The Openlight roller shades we manufactured here in Ann Arbor using Somfy rechargeable li-on powered motors fit the bill perfectly. In the recreation room our client went with blinds that allow for moving the light from direct glare without completely blocking it. Motorized roller shades roll up completely, clearing the view, and can be operated with a remote or automated with an app on a phone.

Home office - modern home office idea in New York

A young couple bought a one bedroom apartment near Lincoln center that was a perfect size for two but needed a design makeover to make it more accommodating for overnight guests. We faced a challenge to design a room that would both provide privacy to guests while maintaining the sweeping city views when the room isn't occupied. We solved this by designing walls of switchable glass panels. Each glass wall can change appearance with the flip of a switch - transparent to enjoy the view, milky white and opaque for privacy. Throughout the apartment, custom wood millwork covers the window HVAC units in each room, turning the corner in the master bedroom to morph into an integrated his/hers closet, TV console, and desk.

By using Hunter Douglas Architella PowerView honeycomb shades with its tiny stacking space, I was able to clear the window of the treatment when they wanted the view, and have 99% UV protection and superior glare control for TV viewing. The convenience of the Powerview hub enabled the client to control their shades from the Hunter Douglas Powerview app. Seasonal, scheduled shade control is what this is all about. Protecting their treasured possessions from the strong, beach city sunlight even when they are on a travel adventure.

My clients wanted insulating honeycomb shades on all of their windows, including two Palladium windows that have shallow arches at the top. One of the Palladium windows is very wide. These two shades are being fabricated by a company which makes Hunter Douglas shades in specialty shapes. Pictures to be uploaded after installation. My clients decided to go with PowerView automation so that they don't have to open and close the shades manually. My installer, Mike LeGault, helped them to set scenes on a special app so that the shades can open and close when the homeowners want them to.
