Reverse Shed Eichler
This project is part tear-down, part remodel. The original L-shaped plan allowed the living/ dining/ kitchen wing to be completely re-built while retaining the shell of the bedroom wing virtually intact. The rebuilt entertainment wing was enlarged 50% and covered with a low-slope reverse-shed roof sloping from eleven to thirteen feet. The shed roof floats on a continuous glass clerestory with eight foot transom. Cantilevered steel frames support wood roof beams with eaves of up to ten feet. An interior glass clerestory separates the kitchen and livingroom for sound control. A wall-to-wall skylight illuminates the north wall of the kitchen/family room. New additions at the back of the house add several “sliding” wall planes, where interior walls continue past full-height windows to the exterior, complimenting the typical Eichler indoor-outdoor ceiling and floor planes. The existing bedroom wing has been re-configured on the interior, changing three small bedrooms into two larger ones, and adding a guest suite in part of the original garage. A previous den addition provided the perfect spot for a large master ensuite bath and walk-in closet. Natural materials predominate, with fir ceilings, limestone veneer fireplace walls, anigre veneer cabinets, fir sliding windows and interior doors, bamboo floors, and concrete patios and walks. Landscape design by Bernard Trainor: www.bernardtrainor.com (see “Concrete Jungle” in April 2014 edition of Dwell magazine). Microsoft Media Center installation of the Year, 2008: www.cybermanor.com/ultimate_install.html (automated shades, radiant heating system, and lights, as well as security & sound).

The 3615™ gas fireplace is the smallest model in the three-part Linear Gas Fireplace Series and is perfect for more intimate spaces, such as bedrooms, bathrooms and cozy dens. Like its larger counterparts, the 4415™ gas fireplace and 6015™ gas fireplace, this gas fireplace showcases a stunning fire view unlike anything else available. Its sleek, heavy gauge steel firebox displays tall, dynamic flames over a bed of reflective crushed glass which is illuminated by bottom-lit Accent Lights and accompanied by a unique fireback and optional interior fire art. The transitional architecture and design of the 3615™ gas fireplaceallows this model to complement both traditional and contemporary homes.
The 3615™ gas fireplace has a high heat output of 33,000 BTUs and has the ability to heat up to 1,700 square feet by utilizing two concealed 90 CFM blowers. It features high quality, ceramic glass that comes standard with the 2015 ANSI approved low visibility safety barrier, increasing the overall safety of this unit for you and your family. This gas fireplace also allows you to heat up to two other rooms in your home with the optional Power Heat Vent Kit. The new GreenSmart™ 2 Wall Mounted Remote is included with the 3615™ gas fireplace and allows you to control virtually every component of this fully-loaded unit. See the different in superior quality and performance with the 3615™ HO Linear Gas Fireplace.

Serenity doesn’t preclude visual interest or texture. In this primary bath, both are achieved while still preserving the relaxing environment. The double vanity is underscored by two sets of wide flat-panel drawers, painted in Wales Gray. Their width is accentuated by full-length polished brass pulls. The linear theme is carried into the shower with alternating bands of ivory lizard-textured stacked 4×6 tiles and gray penny rounds. More horizontal lines are found in the brass and glass sconces over the mirrors. A 3” thick countertop continues down the sides of the vanity as virtual legs, with an LED illuminated toe kick for a floating effect. Flooring is porcelain tiles with surprising inlays of beach-glass colored penny rounds at the vanity and in the shower. Instead of a sheet-rocked wall between the vanity and shower, this design features a unique frosted and etched glass divider. It extends the sight lines in the room, increases the flow of light, and maintains an open feel in the shower. This main bath is the epitome of rich materiality, executed with a nuanced hand.

Classic architecture meets highly personalized function in this thoughtfully designed kitchen renovation. Soft white cabinetry, substantial millwork and warm natural stone establish a timeless foundation, while a richly stained wood island and sculptural metal range hood introduce contrast and depth.
At the center, an expansive island provides generous prep space, seating for four and a natural gathering place between the kitchen and dining area. Warm metal plumbing fixtures and hardware complement the stone surfaces, while illuminated display cabinetry and layered lighting bring warmth to the predominantly neutral palette.
Behind the cabinetry is where much of the design reveals itself. Dedicated knife storage, an expansive spice drawer, vertical tray and cutting-board dividers, specialized cookware storage, a deep spirits drawer and custom glassware cabinetry give virtually everything a designated home. Professional appliances are integrated into the surrounding millwork, allowing performance to coexist with the room's traditional character.
The same cabinetry language continues into the beverage area and adjoining laundry and utility spaces, creating a cohesive suite of hardworking rooms that feel considered down to the smallest detail.
The result is a kitchen that doesn't rely on trends for its impact. Its luxury comes from craftsmanship, proportion, natural materials and a level of organization tailored specifically to the homeowners.
