Staircase - victorian wooden u-shaped staircase idea in Houston with painted risers

The new stairs have rounded ends at the lowest tread, called volutes. The rounded treads take a lot of skill to build but the add a softer corner to go around. They also add a wider visual base at the lower flight, seemingly grounding the stairs solidly to the floor. The finish carpenter tasked with building the stairs was a master carpenter, designing the intricate details of the newel posts. The two bottom newel posts are a natural stained maple finish, while the upper newels are painted.
