This large house was designed while working at another firm in Idaho. I was the project architect for the house. The owner wanted a southwestern style feel with large log detailing. Extensive patio and outdoor spaces made this home live large in the summer months.

Common Dandelion. Dandelions are perennials that thrive in areas of full sun and consistent moisture, however they can still crop up in areas of drier shade. They produce a huge taproot that can reach up to 15-feet deep! Pulling the top of the plant off, or cutting it down with a weedeater won't kill the plant; it can generate new top growth from the roots below the soil. We ripped out the lawn and replaced with low water perennials and grasses, along with a couple of citrus tress and a pineapple guava! The hardscape is simple broken concrete and decomposed granite. The whole area is on a drip irrigation system with a rain sensor. This is the planted area after 3 months - and in our "winter!"

This Hollywood Fairytail house had been lovingly restored, all but the garden! We demolished everything in the front garden and designed a new gracious porch with a checkerboard design in concrete tiles, new low water landscaping with drip irrigation and meandering paths of flagstone, a recirculating fountain and rain garden. Added fruit trees, native and climate appropriate plants and a walkable low water Ruschia area for kids and dogs.
