Sweet Joe Pye Weed is a pollinator magnet, attracting bees, butterflies, moths, and other pollinators that seek nectar and pollen. It is the larval host to 15+ species of caterpillars (The Eupatorium genus are larval hosts for over 40 species). Birds that eat insects can be attracted to feed off of visiting bugs.

We added low voltage LED lighting throughout the garden - this particular fixture will continue to patina - love the clean lines. This garden had great bones - it just needed some space planning and a little TLC. We removed an old and not very attractive rose garden to create a new decomposed granite seating area with a custom fire pit and some olive trees. The rest of the garden got a major landscape re-do, with low water plants, lawn area replaced with Kurapia, drip irrigation and LED landscape lighting. The clients are delighted with the new space and what with the lighting and fire pit, can really enjoy this gorgeous garden!

While Virginia Creeper is often planted intentionally as an ornamental vine, it can often crop up in places where you didn't invite it and get out of control. It's also often confused with poison ivy. The easiest way to tell the difference between Virginia creeper and poison ivy is to count the leaflets: Virginia creeper has 5 leaflets (it's scientific name is Parthenocisis quinquefolia, for 5 leaves), while poison ivy has 3 leaflets. Virginia creeper is an agressive vine that can grow 50-feet tall. The posts in place for the new bamboo trellis screen. One of the main goals of the new screen and entry garden was to offer a softer approach at an angle to the front door.

The new hillside retaining beds were created with inexpensive concrete blocks set on a compacted decomposed granite base.

This Hollywood Fairytail house had been lovingly restored, all but the garden! We demolished everything in the front garden and designed a new gracious porch with a checkerboard design in concrete tiles, new low water landscaping with drip irrigation and meandering paths of flagstone, a recirculating fountain and rain garden. Added fruit trees, native and climate appropriate plants and a walkable low water Ruschia area for kids and dogs.
