A perfect blend of traditional and contemporary. Mixing these two styles creates a very modern, yet cozy feel. The subway tile and stainless appliances are softened by the creamy paint and rich wood floors.

Staggering the height of the wall cabinets creates a more dramatic look and also provides more storage. These Shaker style cabinets are finished in a custom made stain picked personally by our clients. A light to medium stain is always a great choice with Quartersawn Oak. This wood has a lot of natural character that can be hidden by a dark finish.

This simplisitic look is given a touch of elegance with the crystal knobs. The muted color scheme creates a sense of calm and relaxation.

This kitchen is perfect for entertaining guest. It provides plenty of room for guest and also keeps the host a part of the party while still preparing food. The metal barstools with colorful vinyl cushions add a funky twist to this classic style.

The blanket chest under the window was found early in the project and was purchased already painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. It became the inspiration to save the rock solid 1950s maple bedroom set inherited from a parent. We had it painted with the same technique. The upholstered chair and the oriental-style rug were too new for the homeowner to part with, so the fabric for the custom Roman shades was chosen to complement both of them.

Dawn Cromer photographer and homeowner. This modern farmhouse was custom built by Peak Builders, LLC, in central Virginia and completed 2015. Two separate architects contributed to the project, Andres F. Martinez founder of ARKE design-build, LLC, and Heath Wills founder of Heath Wills Home Designs, llc. Each worked closely with the homeowners, marrying their aim to fashion the home inside and out to have a farmhouse heart yet craftsman flare. The main house exterior features a mixture of board-and-batten and lap hardie siding painted Benjamin Moore White Dove (OC-17), while the garage is solely board-and-batten painted Benjamin Moore Caliente (AF-290).

Mixing stained and painted finishes is a fun and simple way to create character. We used Maple on the perimeter cabinets in a Whipped Cream finish. The island is Cherry with a Sienna stain. All cabinetry is a product of Haas Cabinet.

The fixtures and countertops are very complimentary to the cabinets. The deep stained cabinets are topped off with chrome hardware and a quartz countertop. The top is quartz made by Cambria. The color is Berwyn with an Ogee edge.

Custom made wine storage is like a functional work of art. The bottles display beautifully in the glass cabinetry and custom appliance doors.

The rich Sienna stain on these Cherry cabinets blends nicely with warm tones in the flooring. It adds a nice pop to the design without being overbearring.
