Inspiration for an exterior home remodel in Phoenix

Marvin Signature fixed casement windows with push out casement flankers make the kitchen windows easy to open for fresh breezes. The Bay Windows were also replaced with double-pane energy efficient windows Marivn Windows.

Elements such as solar design, triple pane Zola windows, energy efficient appliances, a rainwater catchment system that supplies all the water and healthier eco-friendly materials – repurposed bowling alley lanes for countertops and recycled wood used throughout – are just a few of the sustainable features incorporated into this innovative design approach. The contemporary style house is linear in nature creating a diametric form against the organic landscape. The opposing forms do well in showcasing each other in their contrast. The grand open floor plan welcomes you in as the views of the surrounding mountain range parade the backside of the home. The 12’ span of glass creates a feeling of being amongst the outdoors while enjoying the comforts of the home. Ample light floods into the home with a row of clerestory windows in the two-story great room. This home was truly built for entertaining, with a 12-person dining table, two living rooms, a bunk room, and a large outdoor entertaining area with a dual-sided fireplace. Glo A5f double pane windows and doors were selected since modern profiles and cost-effective efficiency were a priority. The aluminum series boasts high-performance spacers, multiple air seals, a continuous thermal break, and low iron glass with sleek durable hardware. Selecting the flange (f) profile of the series allows for a conventional install to an otherwise exceptional window. The clarity and size of the windows and doors showcase the true beauty of the home by allowing the outdoors to flood into the space. The strategic placement of awning windows fixed windows and tilt and turn windows promotes intentional airflow throughout the home.

The Solar Decathlon project’s focus on energy efficiency and modern design led them to select the Glo A5 Series windows and doors for the project. Two large Lift and Slide doors paired with hidden sash windows and two custom – and bright red – D1 entry doors complement the modern aesthetic of the home and provide exceptional thermal performance. The A5 Aluminum Series was used throughout the home. The dual pane windows provide cost-effective durability in the temperate climate. The A5 Series boasts a larger continuous thermal break, high-performance spacers, multiple air seals, and low iron glass, which helped facilitate the Passive House standards. For a design where clean lines are key, the thinner profile frame furnishes the contemporary home with an effortless style. The double-pane glazing coupled with European operability is the perfect combination in creating a contemporary home-design worth noting. The homeowners absolutely love the form and function of their tilt-turn windows!

Although the overall project goal was to increase the amount of natural light added to the interior, we had to make sure the exterior looked right too. In this case, everything we created on this addition was symmetrical on every side (five awning windows and three skylights per side!). White walls, dark floors, modern art and large-scale windows make this living room a charming respite with its glamorous, gold accents. Couple this with detailed moldings, high ceilings and a gorgeous stone mantel and you get this glorious, sublime space.

This renovation was for a couple who were world travelers and wanted to bring their collected furniture pieces from other countries into the eclectic design of their house. The style is a mix of contemporary with the façade of the house, the entryway door, the stone on the fireplace, the quartz kitchen countertops, the mosaic kitchen backsplash are in juxtaposition to the traditional kitchen cabinets, hardwood floors and style of the master bath and closet. As you enter through the handcrafted window paned door into the foyer, you look up to see the wood trimmed clearstory windows that lead to the backyard entrance. All of the shutters are remote controlled so as to make for easy opening and closing. The house became a showcase for the special pieces and the designer and clients were pleased with the result. Three bedrooms were reconfigured into 2, and a large master suite was created. A sitting area with custom cabinetry sits to the right of the sleeping area. Rather than close off an existing window, the clients' desire for light was met by replacing the window panes with glass block against which we placed their queen bed.

This Art Nouveau inspired staircase is one of many outstanding features in this home, designed and built in 1922 by architect, Ambrose Russell during the heyday of the western railroad in Tacoma!
