The happy hour loving couple work from home and they wanted a place to escape to once the workday was over. The solution was a detached screened gazebo with a gas fire table and comfy furniture. The EZ-Screen Porch Windows allow 3-1/2 seasons of use. Key gazebo features include a poured and stained concrete pad, a clear coated tongue and grove knotty pine ceiling, and an asphalt shingle roof. Added interior elements include all-weather lightweight aluminum furniture with comfy fabric cushions, and a Hiland Brown Hammered Bronze Fire Pit on an area rug. All-weather lightweight aluminum loveseat with removable fabric cushions and two end tables completes the room. Our clients hired their landscape company to add plants and trees around it so it looks as if it has always been there.

Lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the ambiance. Recessed square LED lights illuminate the space, while two incandescent wall sconces add a touch of warmth. All of this is seamlessly orchestrated through Lutron Caseta WiFi switches, allowing me to curate the perfect lighting atmosphere for any occasion. Functionality meets aesthetics with Merillat cabinetry thoughtfully integrated into the design. These cabinets discreetly store away office supplies and materials, maintaining a clutter-free environment conducive to focus and creativity. The ebony veneer theme extends to the custom columns, creating a visual harmony throughout the space. The pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the standing desk, a marvel of modern design and functionality. Its programmable feature allows for up to four memorized heights, catering to my ergonomic preferences throughout the workday. This bathroom was designed for two professionals who dedicate themselves to the health and wellness of others. The objective of the project was to be able to practice for themselves, what they preach to their patients. The original 90” x 162” primary bathroom had so many pain points (would you to look at a toilet when taking a relaxing bath?), that it should have been an easy task to meet their needs and desires, but it was anything but due to structural issues with the home. Several design layouts were considered before it was concluded that the only approach to check the ‘needs’ boxes was to flip the primary fixtures in the room from one end of this long, narrow bathroom to the other and incorporating a wet room. The needs list included a soaking tub, a spacious shower that accommodated dual showering on business workday morning, more counter space, a bidet toilet, more storage, better lighting, better heat and humidity control, a soothing color pallet and privacy from the neighbors. An air jet soaking tub (motor concealed in the nearby vented base cabinet) under a new window with privacy glass on the bottom and a clear glass awning window on top checked two boxes. The center drain for the bathing features provides space for two people to shower simultaneously while highlighting the soothing color pallet from every view point in the room. The integrated bidet toilet is an affordable luxury that delivers health and wellness multiples times in a day. The expanded vanity optimized storage while providing more, clutter free countertop space. Utilizing a variety of lighting types, with dimmers, provides the right illumination for every bathroom activity. Lastly, the in-floor heat, toe-kick heater and relocated bathroom exhaust fan over the shower help maintain a consistently comfortable temperature and humidity level in this bathroom transformation.

The customers desired a secluded environment for retreat at the end of a long workday. The project began with stone selection. We desired an organic stone that would age beautifully over time, and shape the walls and features of the space. Our team faced major logistics challenges throughout the project. The wooded property sloped away from the house dramatically making difficulty bringing in large materials and machinery needed to complete the job. Tree protection and a temporary road were constructed for the duration of the project. Stone placement was key to success for this project. We hand-selected each boulder for the project and assembled the stones by similar grain patterns and colors to create authenticity. The idea was to give the illusion that these natural limestone formations existed on the property before the home and landscaping was created adding a great mystery to the overall feature. The viewer is surrounded by large stone walls with cascades of water that have shaped the stone over time. The viewer is given the illusion that the source of water comes from the distance of the property and cascades into a secluded area. We designed an underground cistern to hold rain water run-off allowing the water feature to naturally filter the water for re-use. The pump system is run on a Variable Frequency Drive for programmable automation, allowing the customer to run the waterfall at different flow rates at different times of day allowing for operation cost savings, and low energy consumption. The master bedroom received new hardwood floors in a light color to match the main floor as well as a fresh coat of paint. We Staged it with transitional furniture and accessories to help buyers see the full potential of the expansive space. The space was so large that we were able to create a seating area with a pair of occasional chairs, a coffee table, and an area rug. A soft color palette provides potential buyers with a feeling of a restful calm and inviting space - something everyone wants at the end of a long workday.

This home had a backyard patio that was cracked and unappealing. The homeowner wanted a place to entertain and escape after a hectic workday. The expansive paver patio has a seating wall around a fire pit at one end and a pergola on the other. There is a built in barbecue with mini fridge near the kitchen door. The plantings have color year round and thrive in the heavy shade from the existing mature trees.

The most transformative part of the project was the addition of the primary suite. Our clients wanted this space to be more than just a bedroom—it needed to become an integral part of their daily routine, where they could truly unwind after a long day and start each morning with intention. Because they worked from home, we connected the suite to their lounge office through a private seating room, allowing them to ease into the workday feeling refreshed and retreat just as easily afterward without ever leaving their sanctuary. Designed as a retreat, the suite features exposed wood beams that add character and warmth, while the walls are painted in White Flour by Sherwin-Williams for a soft, airy backdrop. Overhead, a Williams Sonoma Ingrid chandelier serves as a warm focal point, bringing elegance with a modern edge. A walk-in closet with glass-and-iron doors provides a boutique-like entrance, while the bedroom flows seamlessly into the spa bathroom. The bathroom walls are painted in that same Swiss Coffee by Sherwin-Williams, creating a light and calming foundation for the warm wood tones of the floating double vanity. At the heart of the room, the freestanding Kohler tub rests on a bed of smooth river stones, creating a grounding focal point that welcomes our clients to truly unwind. The zero-entry shower, finished with Kenridge Ribbon Maple Matte porcelain tile, adds an organic warmth, while Kohler matte black fixtures provide a modern contrast. This balance of natural warmth and modern refinement turned the suite into more than just a functional addition—it became the personal retreat our clients had envisioned, perfectly supporting their lifestyle of working, resting, and recharging at home.

This whole-home remodel took a chopped-up, multi-room floor plan and turned it into an open, beautiful family and entertaining space. We added hardwood floors throughout the home to make the primary floor visually cohesive. Remodeling the primary bathroom brought a sense of luxury and relaxation after a long workday. The family room is perfect for movie watching and weekend family catch-up time.

I've always liked traditional hallways that have angled doors . This home was designed for a young couple with two daughters. The wife wanted a colorful house, to offset her workdays spent in operating rooms. We went with a strongly colored salvaged pine floor, with gold walls and dark gray baseboards. This upstairs hall is daylit with a skylight. For the bedrooms, our client choose classic girl colors: purple and pink, trimmed with darker versions of the same colors. This Smith & Vansant project was built many years ago. I took this snapshot on a day when the girls had not made their beds!
